I'm happy to report that my patient is doing remarkably well, Dearies! I am a bit worse for wear from the stress of it, but nothing a good night's sleep and a hot shower won't fix!

His surgery started at 7:30 am, I met with the surgeon at 9:15 to get the report that everything went beautifully, and then it was a few hours in recovery before I was able to bring him home, get him up the stairs (with the help of a couple of angels), and deposit him into his chair.

Many of you have commented that this whole adventure seems nuts, and I confess that I kept waiting for Candid Camera to jump out and tell me I had been silly to believe that a total hip replacement would be an outpatient procedure with no need for extensive physical therapy.....but nope....this is a new-ish procedure that is a "tissue-sparing direct anterior approach". There are no restrictions other than to not overdo it for a few weeks, and Rich assures me that the pain and discomfort is quite minimal.

He will use a walker until we see the doc again on February 20th, and I will continue to watch him like a hawk to make sure he's behaving, and definitely take this opportunity to get us back to eating healthy and moving whenever possible.

(I will confess, though, that a night in the hospital might have been easier for me, since I was not at all prepared for how emotionally and physically hard it was going to be to be in complete charge of a 6'2" guy on sedatives.)

So.

Thank you for all of your thought, prayers, good wishes, and happy vibes. They worked!

BACK IN A FLASH

Rich is getting a new hip tomorrow, so I will be hither and yon for a few days, Dearies. Much to my complete surprise, it is an outpatient procedure and will not require any physical therapy, so keep the happy thought that I can manage his care without sedatives, a large rubber mallet, or law enforcement getting involved.

If you see the bat signal in the skies over Hoosierville, please send Tylenol and a vat of cold brew.

SORRY TO WORRY YOU, DEARIES. I'M HERE.

Just a quick check-in this morning, Friends. I'm here and sort of upright. This flu and sinus infection and then return of the pancreatitis were just...awful. I honestly can't remember when I was that sick! I am up and feeling much better. Getting my wits about me and looking forward to a quiet day of stitching and watching the snow fly.

We'll return to our regularly scheduled programming this week....I promise!

But THANK YOU from the bottom of my pitiful little heart for all of the love! I hope you feel it returned to you tenfold!

IT'S NOT EASY BEING ME TODAY

This flu is NO joke, Dearies. I cannot imagine how sick I'd be without the flu shot, because I...feel...awful.

IN WHICH MY JERSEY BOY GETS THE FLU

We've just returned from the Urgent Care where my dear sweet Jersey Boy was diagnosed with Influenza Type A and told to go home and continue doing what he's been doing...which is taking Mucinex, Robitussin, lots of rest, and fluids.

As for Yours Truly...I am keeping my distance, washing my hands like a nervous raccoon, and thanking the stars above that I am fully vaccinated for whatever comes my way as I run to and fro catering to his every whim.

Stitching, soup, and not much else on the menu for today, Dearies.

What's new with you?

A GOOD START TO WHAT WILL HOPEFULLY BE A GREAT YEAR

Our New Year's Eve Spinster Extravaganza was quiet and lovely. My poor Jersey Boy has been ailing with some kind of viral plague that he brought home on the train with him after Christmas, and I made the brilliant decision to get BOTH the flu shot AND the covid booster on Friday, so we were both a bit...ugh.

But I did manage to pull together a little snack plate for our midnight revelry:

The mandarins were my favorite and of the Sumo variety, so they were perfectly juicy and sweet! The dates, however, were a complete dud, since I ordered the wrong kind and didn't know the there actually ARE different kinds of dates.

Today was also very quiet, but I did manage to do a few little things (like take a short walk) and start a new start. This is Shepherd's Bush Abundance Sampler:

My accessories were a stitchy gift that I just love love love! Look at the needleminder!

I hope your very own day was exactly what you wanted it to be, and that the upcoming 365 will be good to all of us! Come tell me all about your holiday and what your wishes are for 2024!
