GRRRRRR...

Dear person who stole my debit card number and used it to buy a subscription to an online dating site that shall remain nameless....

Really?

If the charge would have been for food, or an electric bill, or medicine for you or a sick child, I'm one of those idiots that would have happily given you the last eighteen cents in my account if I thought it would help you.

But a dating site?

I get it....truly....I do.  Being alone can seem like a very bad proposition, and I suppose that you figured that companionship would fix whatever ails you.  But do you really want to find your Prince or Princess Charming with a stolen credit card?

Phooey on you.  My morning will be spent at the bank ordering a new card, and then on the phone with all of the places that I had that old card on file to make buying things like prescriptions and car insurance and Stewey insurance that much easier.

Can a spinster just get a break, please?

Methinks I am not meant to be in the world writ large, and that life would get a lot better if I just took my little dog and a diet Coke and headed to the studio.

So how was your weekend?

  1. As someone who has had that happen twice, I totally commiserate.... I hope you have a good debit/credit card company. A good one can be quite helpful.

  2. I just had the same thing happen on my Target card. Someone charged a membership to an on-line dating site. At least with the credit card I can get my money back but with a debit card, I think you are totally out of luck. Hugs and commiserations from here too. I sometimes think I want to go back to the 50s. I don't remember people being such butt-heads then. sigh...............

  3. Oh Coni, you are not alone. I wish the hackers would use their talents for furthering good uses of technology instead of causing issues, problems and stress for the rest of us.

  4. I wonder if something can be tracked by the bank because someone is obviously doing on-line looking and conversation linked to an account.

  5. Lucky for me that the Credit Card Co. and also my bank will call to verify "unusual charges" made to my Credit Card or Debit Card and will reverse them immediately and then issue a new CC or DC.

  6. Coni, I'm not pointing any fingers (or paws), but if any cute French poodles start knocking on Stewey's doggie door, then I think you know what happened!

  7. Since it was a debit card, I hope you are not responsible for this charge. I just went through this with a credit card, not responsible for any charges. It is still annoying having to notify companies to change to new CC number!! and no shopping on line until new Cc arrived! Well I guess that part is good.

  8. Luckily, charges made on a debit card can also be disputed (voice of experience speaking here). The bank immediately returned the money to my husband's account and his new card was isssued. It is still a pain to wait for the new card and then to notify all the auto-pay accounts. When all is done I hope you'll find some peace in your stitching.

  9. Very quiet compared to yours Coni. Sending prayers for you and Stewey. The studio sounds pretty good. Cathryn

  10. I hope you get this sorted. I had a similar problem with my debit card being used and the bank refunded my account.

  11. Well, I tried to comment, but don't see it....so if there are 2, you may ignore one!! Most debit cards are Mastercard or Visa so they carry the same protections of zero liability. It's happened to me THREE times...and I am careful!! After this is straightened out a trip to the studio, OR to your LNS is definitely called for!!

  12. I agree wth Lou! Watch out for lady doggies or maybe even male humans who also happen to like dogs. Someone may have been match making on your behalf!

  14. that's horrible. I had my credit card cloned in autumn '14 so I know exactly how you felt. I hope they can fix it for you ASAP, I had to wait almost an entire year before they gave me all my money back. gggrrRrrrRRRRRrrr!!

  16. I'm sorry you have to deal with this... Most of us have been there also. A trip to the studio to pick out some new project sounds like a lot more fun. Go to your happy place.
