FIDDLESTICKS, NUTS, AND FUDGE

Before I moved to New Jersey (sometime in the year 1993), the worst curse words that I used were rather banal.  As a matter of fact, I now hear more and more of these words on network TeeVee, and, to further my point that they really are very bland,  not during late night hours.   But once I made myself a resident of the Garden State, I somehow thought that a lot of well-chosen expletives would make me fit in.

They didn't.

At all.

The only thing they did was make all of my fellow New Jersey-ans wonder what the heck was up with the hayseed Hoosier stumbling her way around Margate, and on more than one occasion, I caught sight of someone in the Park and Shop shaking their head in wonder that I was able to figure out how to get out of bed in the morning.

What can I say?  I'm a doofus and always have been.

So when I woke up this morning and realized that The Illness of Epic Proportions had come back, the words that flew out of my mouth in between hacking up a lung or two were NOT ready for prime time.  As of yesterday it has officially been one month since I have fallen ill, and I'm not exactly what you'd call handling it with dignity and grace.  I'm miserable and headed back to the big girl sleigh bed with a cuddly puppy and a bar of soap for my potty mouth.

Don't cry for me, Argentina.  This too shall pass.  In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves.

  4. Oh no I can't believe you are sick again! Did they do a blood test for pertussis? Whooping cough is making a comeback and sometimes they don't know you have it until the blood test for pertussis comes back positive!

I hope you are totally well and healthy soon!!

  7. I have 3 daughters.... the words that come out of their mouths make my husband cringe.... and he's no slouch in the potty mouth department..... (By the way, we lived in NJ for 15 years....just moved across the border to NY this past summer.)
So sorry that you are sick again!! Dagnabbit might be a word that one of us would have used back in the day.... Rest up, drink lots of fluids, and feel better soon!!!

  8. C'mon up to Maine and I'll nurse you back to health. Stewey can attempt to civilize my rough pack of critters while you sip homemade chicken soup.

  9. Having been born and raised in NJ, I am quite familiar with the NJ potty mouth. When we moved to central Illinois, (my husband is a farmer, say no more), not only did I bring my potty mouth with me which I unleashed with frightening regularity when coming up on yet another slow moving big ass tractor, but I apparently brought my NJ style of driving...pedal mashed to the floor at all times, and my NJ accent. When people politely ask us our life story and we tell them we imported ourselves from NJ, they smugly look at one another, nod in agreement and state, " we thought we recognized the accent." Of course, they are saying it with a southern twang, or the dreaded Chicago accent...and they say we talk funny.

  12. If you've been given an anitbiotic for anything related to lungs, and that anitbiotic is a Z-pac, it will come back. Just sayin, my family and friends will back me up, had to tell the docs not to even go there when my youngest was sick once again. Hope you feel better soon, being sick is miserable:(

  13. One dose is more than enough for a life time never mind twice in a month! No wonder you are giving all your expletives an airing. Hope you get over this a lot quicker and can do some lovely autumnal stitching.
I hope Stewey hasn't headed for the hills!

  14. Nothing wrong with some bad words to ease the pain! I hope this passes soon, and you will be able to put the crud behind you once and for all.

    Take care!

  15. Did you get a new toothbrush, not just for your potty mouth? Always do after an illness or you may just give it back to yourself! I sure hope you feel better soon!

  17. Sorry you're feeling poorly. "Frak" is about the worst I say, but I'm trying to parade as a genteel Southern lady rather than the d@mn Yankee I actually am (I've been told a d@mn Yankee is someone that's born in the North but then comes to the South...and STAYS...it's not my fault I wasn't born here). Hope you feel better soon!

  18. I'm also from NJ. We have a way with words. : )

On the first day of school I dropped my kid off and the place was an absolute mad house. The other parents were nuts. Traffic was a nightmare.

I was upset and came out with a descriptive combo that surprised my husband. His response was 'I didn't know you knew that one'.

I know them all. : ) Use most of them regularly. And sometimes others hear me. lol

  21. So sorry to hear you're ill again Coni. I get a bad bout of bronchitis every few years...usually what happens is i get a cold during allergy season and the whole thing escalates and I can't get rid of it. The worse thing for me is the darn coughing - after a few days my head hurts so much and it feels like my brain is rattling inside my head. Bronchodilator inhalers and antibiotics are the only thing that help for me and even those take awhile. Take care and hope you feel better soon!

  25. This happened to me two years ago next month. I started coughing and coughing and just felt so incredibly miserable. Went to three different doctors, four different times, was diagnosed with bronchitis twice and a cold once, given several different antibiotics including Cipro (which will kill Anthrax, but wouldn't touch what I had!) and a chest x-ray, and finally diagnosed with allergies. Apparently I am allergic to numerous things, including dust, mold, pollen, and several more things.

To cut to the chase, I am still sick most days, but at least it's now usually a manageable cough, and not the hold-onto-the-furniture hacking of days gone by. I suffer horribly once the cold weather gets here and the heat comes on (all that dry air...ack!), and I will be swallowing Zyrtec forevermore. Have them check to be sure it isn't allergies causing this...once I got some Nasonex, Zyrtec, and I-forget-what-the-evening-allergy-pill-was, I felt a lot better. Still not great (I've resigned myself to never feeling great again), but at least I can function.
