WHY I NEED TO START GOING TO BED EARLIER

I don't have one darn thing to show you today, but I will tell you that I'm walking around the house wondering why the word "effluvia" is stuck in my brain. Effluvia? I am suspecting that this is a result of reading "Drood", or that it's from the BBC. (I have a bad habit of turning on the radio before bed and I usually fall asleep to the BBC. Who else would know the word effluvia?)

(I am also noticing that I seem to use parentheses a LOT in my writing, but I'm hoping that y'all will say "Who cares? Using parentheses indiscriminately is part of her charm, along with making up words and butchering the English language.")

So you'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see if I snap out of this fog or not. I'm hoping that I do, since those letters on "The Riddle" are not going to stitch themselves,no matter how hard I wish it to be true.

  1. Looks beautiful so far. BTW, before you watch Dear Frankie be sure to stock up on Kleenex.

  2. Effluvia-hmmm, I had to look it up. Did you have chili yesterday, or did Stewey eat something that didn't agree with him? That could be why effluvia in on your mind!

  3. Sometimes I wonder if you can see inside my brain and then write down what you see on your blog.
('Gobbledygook' is a nice word to have playing through your mind as well) (as well as 'parentheses', actually).
Parentheses parentheses parentheses. Thanks Spins. Parentheses, parentheses...

  4. I don't think you butcher English very badly, but Yikes! your French!

  5. I use the word effluvia: here. Unless you've been flipping through the archives, though, I won't lay claim to planting it in your brain. But just so you know...good company, all that.

  6. I know what you mean about the BBC -to which particular bit of it were you listening? (You see, mention of the BBC even makes me attend to where I'm sticking my prepositions!)
I think my favourite word at the moment is plinth. Strangely, I've had cause to say it several times over the past week, in different contexts and to different people.
Would it help your motivation if I ask you nicely to get back to stitching because I open your blog first every day to see where you've reached and gaze in admiration and envy? I also like to read your (and Stewey's) profound thoughts and have a giggle. Keep writing even if you don't feel like stitching.

  8. Ew ... effluvia. I love your parentheses. I overuse them as well as ellipses. Too bad, I say. It's our style, even if it's not utterly correct.

  9. My days wouldn't be the same without your posts! And today I learned a new word -- effluvia!

  10. I don't think there's anything wrong with using parentheses (since I've also recently realized I use them all the time, too!). LOL.

The Riddle is looking great, by the way.

  11. Ahh....the ellipses. They may be MY favorite punctuation (next to parentheses)
