PERSPECTIVES

So there I was, sitting in the Happy Chair fretting about something. I do that a lot. Fret. I couldn't even tell you what it was. Let's just say it probably had to do with the state of affairs in the kitchen, or the dust bunnies on the floor, or the fact that Stewey was prancing around with socks on because he decided he didn't want to "catch anything" from the filth that is me. Damn dog.

But I regress.

I decided to get up off my fanny and do something, and then decided not to do something, so I just sat down in a chair that I have by the back door. I don't think I've ever sat in this chair before. The truth is that it's a little recliner that Aunt Chrissy uses if we stitch downstairs rather than up in the studio.

So as I'm sitting there, I started looking at my little room. I mean really looking. And I didn't let myself look at the blah blah paint color or the mismatched end tables or the 20-year old tee vee. Instead, I looked at stuff that I love, yet take for granted on a daily basis. Like books. Or crazy-ass knick knacks that I bought at Hobby Lobby during a five minute shopping spree because I just HAD to merchandise the pot shelf that day and the store was closing. Or Stewey's perch (which always cracks me up when I see him curled up there watching the birds).

I kind of liked what I saw. So I got back in the Happy Chair and picked up Shepherd's Bush "Garden Gate" and started stitching away.

The end.

  2. Funny how a change of position can make such a big difference. Your stitching area is so wonderfully bright. Garden Gate is nice, love those soft colors. PS I like your framed pieces on the shelves. (I enlarged the pic.) Thanks for the decorating tip!

  9. Oh Coni your home is BEAUTIFUL and so elegant. Those books! I know exactly how you feel though. I had a birthday party at my house and everyone was taking pictures. My sister posted some of them and sent them to family. I (detail freak that I am) looked 'behind' the smiling fam and thought... wow that's a pretty room (and it was MINE) lol. Life, dang we get sooo busy, and I just forgot to stop, look around and appreciate! (Now excuse me please, because I haven't vaccumed in a week) lmao. BTW, I'm lovin' Garden Gate too!!

  12. Coni, your home is beautiful! And yes, sometimes it just takes a different perspective for us to appreciate just how much of a relfection it is of us, and how lovely it truly is.

As a kid, did you ever put your feet on the back of the furniture, (when Mom wasn't in the room to tell you otherwise), and hang your head upside down, over the seat, and look at the room, like the ceiling is the floor? No? Well, never mind.

On a different note, do you ever go to Erica's? I go there occasionally (sold my life into slavery for a Bernina), but mainly have been going for cross stitch patterns, etc. which have been dwindling. I KNOW that I haven't bought THAT many! Is she phasing out that department?

Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us! Your humor keeps me laughing and your stitching is inspiring! But no pressure. lol

  18. Priorities (did I spell that right?). We should all take a few minutes to sit in another spot and look at our surroundings with renewed perspective. How nice is that?!! (and to heck with the dust bunnies!!!)

Stitch away Coni! I'm going to pull up a chair and check out my surroundings too.

    Thanks!
