BRINGING HOME THE GOLD

We're four days into The Games, and I've managed to earn two golds and a bronze.

My first event was the Bitching, Moaning, and Complaining Triathlon. I not only won a gold medal in this event, I beat the world record time of fifteen seconds of daylight before I was in full-snit mode.

Winning Pouting was also tough, but somehow I managed to push through and I again found myself on the podium with the gold and a lovely bunch of daffodils for my efforts.

I was only able to take a bronze in Being a General Pain in the Ass, since I spent too much time in bed pulling the covers over my head to fully qualify.

This Olympic Stitching Project is going to be the death of me. I've managed to finish fifteen blocks (out of 247), and I've had to resist the temptation to throw this damn thing out the window at least a dozen times. I'm in love with it one minute and then hating it the next. There's no rhyme nor reason as to why I can't get my brain around this one....I mean, all you need to do is pull thread and stitch a stupid little box of 18 stitches by 18 stitches in whatever stitch the book calls for. So what if the charting....well.....um.....sucks. (Sorry, but I am having one heck of a time understanding the stitch guides for this one and methinks it can't possibly be my fault). (Note: My next event is Passing Blame, so we'll consider that last remark my training for the day).

I am, however, determined to persevere. I'm not exactly known for my stick-to-it-tive-ness, so I'm giving this one everything I've got. Usually when the going gets tough I find a book and a diet Coke and wait until somebody else figures it out. Not this time, though. I. Will. Keep. Going.

  1. Clearly your pre-Olympics training has been paying off. However, I will point out that I have taken the gold medal in the Total Project Avoidance competition. I designated the project, have carried it with me, but have yet to sew a stitch on it. Maybe I need a Romanian coach to do that tough-love thing.

PS -- just discovered your blog recently and really enjoy it!

  2. I've got it all over Diane! I haven't even got my project on the Q-snaps. I just washed it last night. Maybe we tied.

    Congratulations on the medals.

  5. Hate to laugh at your snit-fit, but I can't help laughing at this post. Boy, have I had days just like this...nice to know I'm not the only one!

And I, too, have had many a night of stitching where the simplest concepts completely elude me, leaving me with the strong desire to take the project outside and drive over it with my car multiple times. Then toss it in the field behind our house. :-)

  7. Coni,
What's not to LOVE about your blog??? I have to check it EVERY day to see if you have posted anything new. (You've become like crack cocaine to me!) You (and Stewey) have such the FABULOUS senses of humor! I am enjoying your Olympic posts so much, I made my husband come listen tonight. While so many folks out there seem to be taking themselves and this "repast called needlework" a tad bit too seriously (with the exception of "Ms. Stitch Bitch herself"-another fabulous fav), you are viewing the world through the most awesome pair of spectacles and bringing the rest of us along for the fun ride. Girl, you keep it up because you have become an addiction for us now. . .(My recommendation is to have a little glass of wine for EACH of those 232 blocks left to go. . .before or while you stitch; your choice).

  9. You have my total sympathy on the Olympic stitching thing. I have finally managed to persevere enough on my own to reward myself by not stitching the beading.

And could you tell me who is the designer of that Asiatic lily in your slide show?
