HOLD, PLEASE

Dearies, I need you to bear with me for the next several days. I am having a week of it, and promise to tell you all about it, but right now I need to pull up my socks and focus and NOT be running around Spinsterville chasing rainbows and unicorns and burping glitter.

I do need one favor from you, though. Could you please come tell me all about life in your corner of the world and show me your pretty pictures and funny memes and whatnot?

(What can I say? Visiting with you is the equivalent of tapping my heels together three times while simultaneously sticking my fingers in my eyes humming "lalalalal" and making the real world go away for a minute.)

  1. Hi Connie. What a testimony to bravery and sticktoitiveness you are!! A true inspiration. I wish you all the best. As for my corner of the world - we are finally able to visit with our NC grandchildren after more than a year of pandemic isolation so all is well here.

  2. If I could figure out a way to post the picture of my 3-month-old grandson in his styling new baby sunglasses, I would. I'm having a blast, finally getting to meet him and seeing my daughter and son-in-law for the first time since Christmas 2019.

  3. Visited one of my longtime girl friends in Gettysburg this week, went to Lancaster country and enjoyed lovely weather, purchasing Amish foods, organic dry goods, and long walks.

  4. The new bike I ordered came today, bright red Townie step thru. it is called a flat foot bike because your pedals are in a way that you are able to put your feet flat on the ground. I am excited to take it for a spin this weekend.

  5. I went to an estate sale this weekend and for $16 I got a milk crate pile of patterns, magazines, and books. All were pertaining to some type of needlecraft. I also came home with a half dozen of canvas needlework in different stage of completion. One pattern in particular also has all of the threads needed!

    1. That is an impressive haul!! I do like 'rescuing' pieces that might otherwise not come to life.

  6. I decided take up a cross stitch that I last put down 35 years ago. I has been nagging me every time I opened that drawer. So after soaking and washing it to get rid of the dirt and grim I am determined to finish it. then I can move on to all the over patterns I have here. Love your work Conni, an inspiration. 7. It’s been a rainy day in my part of Ohio. We were without electricity most of day. Somehow ones the lights flicker off I’m paralyzed. Even in the daylight. We live in country so no electricity =no water. Hope you have a restful weekend. I’m stitching... very slowly...Huckleberry Farm.

  9. Beautiful autumn weather here in Melbourne, Australia. I'm about 1/3 through Ink Circles' 'Cirque des cercles' and loving every stitch of it! (DMC 830 on 32-count antique white linen)

  11. After spending Oct-Jan preparing to sell our house and move four states away, then unpack and settle in all the while working full time and having construction going on to finish the unfinished second story.....deep breath. And not quilting a lick during that time, I had a strong desire to start the Pandemic cross stitch from Long Dog Samplers. I’ve not cross stitch much since quilting became my passion. Just today I ordered a big old piece of linen and will chose a floss color once I see it in person. Weeeeer, I’m going to join you in stitch-y therapy!

  12. I spent some time stitching with friends in Michigan City Indiana this past weekend, and we went on a pilgrimage to House of Stitches on Saturday. While there, you called to inquire about some fabric. I wanted to shout: "Hey, let me talk to her!" but they might have thought I was a bit looney.....so I kept my mouth shut and bought another chart....

  13. I committed to 4 projects for my son, full coverage designs that are retro style travel posters of sci-fi and fantasy subjects. Think "Visit Hogsmeade". I'd never done full coverage before and I've realized it's not for me. But...I'm almost three quarters done with the last one, hurray! It'll be wonderful to move on to something else.

    1. Patricia, I know full coverage would not be fore me either!! SO much work. And they are rarely small. I can't believe you're almost done. More power to you!!!

  14. I had to say good-bye to my Little Old Lady kitty yesterday so it was a difficult day. Doing the right thing isn't much fun when you're an adult. I'd rather not adult some days! But, I am trying to learn to knit and have now learned how to decrease stitches, slip stitches (who knew there was a direction to do this?!) and I'm reading. I love your blog and am sending good thoughts to you!

  15. I have freaking tons (for me) of wips going/planned...I'm like a pattern junkie! I know I have more than I can ever complete in one lifetime, but I just. can't. stop! LOL I think I enjoy collecting the patterns as much as the stitching. My 8 month old Boston terrier, Edith, is doing very well and never ceases to make me smile with her wacky self!

  16. Iowa is having nice (but windy!) weather. So I'm trying to get an evil ash leaf spirea evicted before it sends suckers out any farther. Move the rocks, pull up the plastic, pull up the runners... But I am taking frequent breaks and go inside and work on a quilt block or two.

I haven't done anything on the cross stitch project - I think I'm intimidated by stitching black on black, even with tips I've read here and other blogs.

Hope all goes well with whatever it is that you need to pull up your socks and focus on!

  17. From the south side of South Bend--I am knitting a blanket for Project Linus knit along and it will be donated to Michiana Five to put with crocheted sleeping mats for the homeless that are not in shelters. Thus too busy to x-stitch right now with all the spring activities.

  20. Today will be spent finishing a non-stitchy project. Tomorrow is Kentucky Derby Day and our son receives his doctorate. We will watch the Derby on TV and our son on the laptop while toasting both with mint juleps!

  21. Hi Coni, This weekend I am participating in the #bbdweekendsal hosted by Brenda and Laura from Brenda and the Serial Starter. I have chosen Midnight Watch as my piece as I love that black cat in front of the moon and the fabulous house. I have also just started Paradise Lost by Plum Street Samplers. Thinking of you.

  22. Good to hear about all the projects these folks are working/playing on. Good to hear about your sock-hiking, and I hope your socks hold up to the stress! You'll endure and more! Tonight we have 5 (f.i.v.e.) family members arriving, staying 3 nights. Hubs and I have been digging and hauling a lot of the yarn I've had stashed away for decades. Dang, what was I thinking? I was thinking I would live to age 432. I still WANT some of this stuff, but I'd still have to live to age 234 to finish it (no eating, no sleeping). Our rec room is overflowing with yarn, which I'm trying to stuff into boxes so they can sit in the garage until we can resume the process of giving it away or selling it. No room for the cars if we have a hailstorm.... Bright spot is, these are dear family -- NC daughter, son-in-law, 3 of her children, and we're planning for me not to cook, just make coffee! You hang in there!

  23. Sunny and very windy here in N.C. I have marigolds and portulaca to plant along with quite a few seed packs of flowers. We need some rain. we are under Red Flag warnings today (dry/windy .. no burning allowed).

take your time and pickup a book. something light, that way you can distract yourself and if you need to take a nap, well you will be all set :)

  24. 04.30.2021-Hello, Coni. I love reading your posts and I think you are a very fine women. In my corner of the world, I don't have much time for stitching, right now. I'm an orthodox Christian and today is our Good Friday. We had Royal Hours this morning and in a few minutes, I will be going to our lamentation service. Normally, for the Paschal celebration we start our service a little before midnight, but we are in a temporary space and we will be having a sunrise service instead. I'm really looking forward to our celebration. I hope that your week goes well for you and that your operation happens soon.

  25. Lovely Saturday in Nebraska. It's going to be a warm weekend and very windy, which means we are in fire danger. We need moisture! I haven't been getting much stitching done the last several weeks as we are finally returning to live theater. I costumed and set-dressed a production that opened last night. It will run for a few weekends. Almost all of us are vaccinated, all the actors wear face shields in performance, and the audience is still asked to wear masks. So I've felt relatively safe. Once I get some much needed rest and mental recovery, I hope to get back to some needlework that is NOT alterations etc. Thinking of you and sending prayers and positive energy.
