The almost true exploits of an intrepid spinster and her stitching...and all of the things that make up her crazy, happy, quiet little life.
Tree is still up. No idea why. Thankfully it is artificial and small.
Some I leave up year round!
If you enjoy it maybe add a few hearts and call it a Valentine tree. I do every season nothing like Christmas but I just like the tree and with the Dollar Tree you can find inexpensive things to decorate with. The year my daughter got married I even did a wedding tree. Just love to have something fresh through out the year.
february 7, 1999 ... or was it the 12th? i dunno, sometime in february cuz the Broncos were in the Super Bowl on my birthday, and there was a blue moon, and we won, and i didn't jinx it all by taking down the tree till i was sure - absolutely sure!!!
In our Northern Climate, people often leave Christmas Trees up and lighted in their homes. It helps bring light and cheer, especially on the cloudy, winter days in Minnesota. My friend is also considering making it a "Valentine Tree" with bright red hearts and white lights.
Here in Maine, it is Easter that is the unofficial deadline. Wreathes especially are kept up until then. Come to Maine, Coni!
Once upon a time, when I was a child, we had neighbors who left their Christmas tree and decorations up well past Easter. Just saying.
I have often still had a tree up at the end of February....too busy to pack it away!
My boss just informed this morning, that he took his down this weekend. It was up since Thanksgiving. It was a real tree and when he moved it he had needles everywhere. Big mess!
Haaaaa...asking for a friend!!! Love it!!!!!
I finally got the last my stuff down day before yesterday. The bins are still in the living room. I usually get my decorations down on January 6 (Old Christmas, according to Appalachian tradition.) but this year have not been well; it's amazing I even got anything up. (Christmas Dinner, such as it was, was on New Year's Day this year.)Up through the 19th Century, Christmas trees and greens were kept until Candlemas Eve, the 2nd of February. This is also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at The Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, marking 40 days since Jesus' birth. Though some say it's good luck if you keep the decorations up until Shrove Tuesday, which is Feb. 25 this year (and when you can get Pączki!) So you're still fine for Candlemas and Shrove Tuesday, both fine Catholic observances.
Old episode of Roseanne. A friend is watching Dan try to untangle the Christmas lights prior to decorating tree. Friend says, "You know, this would be a lot easier if you'd wind them up neatly when you take the tree down." Dan says, "Sure, just how I want to spend my Easter Sunday."
My neighbors leave their foyer tree up all year! :)
Coni, Never fear ~ ours were officially completely put away just yesterday. We so enjoyed our tree this year and it was the last to go. I am a firm believer ~ do what you want.Happiness !
Um, we still have a fake wreath outside our door for the past 3 yrs....still looks good and makes it easier for delivery people to find us ;)
Our Christmas tree is boxed up but still in the dining room! As for some little lights, I've left them up, draped around the mirror in the guest bedroom. They are battery LEDs with tiny holly shapes. Very cute - it's staying. However I have heard of people who leave all their decorations up all year. Of course there are people who tut tut tut and say it's disgraceful (probably the quilt police! LOL), or the superstitious who say it's unlucky after so many days. But who cares what other people think - if it makes a person happy, then that's what matters.
Once I had a colleague whose mobile phone played Frosty The Snowman whenever he received a call, which was often. Throughout the year. Does that count?
Does this count? I carefully carried my fully decorated tree into the spare bedroom. I plan on carefully carrying it out again this December.
We have a live wreath at the end of the driveway. It stays up until it dies; sometimes that is the end of February and sometimes, it is April. I decorated my wrought iron tree for Christmas this year. The tree stays up all year, but the decorations change.
My decorations are still up. Planning to un-decorate this weekend, as it's supposed to be lousy weather to keep me indoors anyway. Sad!!!
As long as you want :)
I have a friend who has been banned (by her very own self) from having a Christmas tree for not taking down her Christmas tree until April. !!! She was too embarassed at having to drag a dead tree out of her house to put it on the curb.
