WHY I LOVE THE STARBUCKS BY THE SPINSTER STITCHER HER VERY SELF

It probably comes as no surprise, but I work on a reward system.

In other words, I bribe myself on a regular basis to live my life as a grown ass adult who should know better, but somehow has the operating capacity of a very lazy, very spoiled two year old.

On Friday afternoons, if I have attended all three of my dialysis treatments that week, I stop at the Starbucks for a treat.

For the last few months that treat has been a Venti Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew.

(Pause for your smirk when you realize what's coming next).

Do you have any idea how many calories are in one of those puppies?!

I sure didn't, but in an effort to get back on the wagon today I decided to look.

Yikes!

So when I pulled into the Starbucks today, I gave the lovely barista my long sob story over the speaker thingie in the drive-thru and told her that I am a portly spinster dialysis patient who treats herself to the Starbucks on Friday afternoons if I have attended all three of my treatments that week but that I need to lose another hundred pounds and  make better life choices both in terms of my eating and drinking habits as well as the facacta shape of my eyebrows but I reallyreallyreally like that damn Venti Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew and I just cannot picture myself being a nonfat soy chai skinny type of person no matter how hard I pretend to be so.

Guess what?

A venti cold brew with no-sugar vanilla syrup and non-fat milk tastes EXACTLY like the full-sugar full-fat version for about one tenth the calories!!!

So apparently, I'm doing THIS now.

(But if you see me asking for the ranch dressing on the side instead of drinking a vat of it with a piece of lettuce, call somebody, because I've clearly been replaced by an alien.)

(Same goes for ordering a burger without the bun.)

Another good day on the machine, Dearies! I am very close to figuring out the trick, but I think it has to do with the addition of CBD oil to my treatment prep. For all I know, the hype is all hooey, but my therapist suggested it as a last resort, and the transplant team approved my use of it. I put a dropper full under my tongue on the way out the door and also rub a few drops onto my access site, and I seem to get through the needle insertion a little easier. It still hurts bad enough to make me see stars, but I don't go into full-on panic attack mode.

I stitched the entire treatment again today and watched Flosstube. Thanks to Danielle/Stitcherista and Pam and Steph/Just Keep Stitchin', I was grinning from ear to ear and enjoying myself completely.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a pool day here in Hoosierville. I haven't been to the pool yet this year because of weather and biopsies, but I am determined to remedy that if at all possible!

Happy, happy, Friday, my very sweet and precious friends! I hope your weekend is filled with all things wonderful! Come tell me all about it!

  2. Hip hip hooray! So glad the CBD oil helps! I'm only occasional commenter, but I'm a regular reader who is always rooting for you, dear Spinster.

  3. Yippppee! I started using CBD oil a couple weeks ago and am shocked and amazed that it provides a gentle calming of what ails me. I had to get over the fact that this was once an illegal drug (Gasp!) But once I did that I am free to make other choices. Have a great weekend in Hoosierville!

  4. I will try one of those drinks since I am getting lazy and stopped making my own cold brew. Good to hear about the CBD, but since every place here including convenience and video stores sell it, I have no idea which is true and potent!! Glad it's a help to you.

    1. According to some friends in the LMPD Narcotics squad, the best way to make sure your CBD products are safe (& legal) is to buy them from chain pharmacies/grocery stores. Too many of the fly by night stores have products that are not entirely safe. Read the label- if the product has less than .1% THC (or none), it's legal in most states. Any higher THC content makes it illegal in most states that haven't legalized marijuana. They've raided a LOT of shops here because of that.

    2. Go to an established shop not the convenience store, if they have a sign about medical marijuana even better. There is generally someone inside that will be a wealth of knowledge on the subject, if not ask for when someone might be there to help you or, pick another shop.

  5. Miss Coni, I reward myself with Starbucks too! My drink of choice usually involves the explanation "that's just how I like it, thankyouverymuch." I drink either cold brew or regular iced coffee, black & unsweetened. No foam, just ice & coffee. As one barista put it, "Hardcore... awesome!" LOL

  6. Glad to hear that you had another good dialysis day! I don't care what you have to do to get through it, if this works for you, go for it. Do make sure it is from a reputable supplier (and I suspect you are).

    Have a fun filled weekend1

  7. I am absolutely delighted that you've discovered that the no-sugar syrup and the non-fat milk don't change the taste of your coffee. That is certainly something to celebrate. My 'thing' is Coca-Cola. Every time they bring out some new no-sugar, low-sugar, low-calorie blah blah blah version, I cross all my fingers and toes and give it a whirl, but so far, no dice. I'm stuck with the full sugar version, which is not good news for my teeth or my waistline.

  8. Hype or not - if it works it's good! So pleased your sessions are going well - and the alternative Starbucks is equally as tasty! Here rain stops play yet again. We are having an extension to our kitchen (next year) so we have used wet days to visit kitchen places and wood burning stove shops. Found a super range cooker and came out with a huge empty cardboard box. "You don't really want this?" Yes please - it's a great weed suppressant in our vegetable patch! "Well thank you - saves me going out in the rain and this going to landfill!" So it came home for my version of landfill. Meanwhile the chickens are quacking and the treadling goes on. But that's the only form of exercise at the moment - this summer has been abysmal!

  9. Coni, glad to hear that you had another good treatment day and that you rewarded yourself. Good for you with the 'healthier' version of your Starbucks drink! Hope you are able to get in some pool time today or tomorrow! Enjoy your weekend!

  10. CBD is good stuff! So glad it is working for you! And I want to like Starbucks but it is so overwhelming to me. I feel like I am not cool enough to order anything from them except a pumpkin spice latte. I like the sounds of that cold brew vanilla business you get. I will just have to hike up my big girl pants hope they don't roll their eyes at me. Ha!
