IN WHICH WE ARE FIRMLY BACK ON THE DIET WAGON...

Remember the portly spinster who was steadily losing weight and perfectly behaving herself?

Well, she was replaced by a rice krispy treat-eating glutton who managed to gain back a few pounds before realizing that starting dialysis is no longer a valid excuse after fourteen months.

Phooey.

Fortunately, not too much damage has been done and I am still down a pretty significant amount from my highest ever. But I have a very long way to go before I'm anywhere near goal, so back on track I go.

This means that I will be making salmon and broccoli for dinner tonight, and I'll let Magoo eat the eleventy-seven boxes of TastyKakes he brought back from New Jersey.

Tomorrow, hopefully, I will feel well enough to go for a walk, and I will do everything within my power to resist a hot dog at the basketball game tomorrow night.

Onward!

I managed to stitch a bit during treatment today. I would have accomplished more, but I just couldn't seem to sit comfortably enough and not alarm at the same time. It probably had something to do with the position of the needles, but I didn't want to push my luck and have to be taken off early.

Here's the progress:

Well, Dearies, that does it for me for a Monday afternoon. I hope your week is off to a wonderful start and that your needles or pens or crayons or hooks are flying!  Do something that makes your heart sing and come tell me all about it!

  1. What do the others at dialysis (nurses, techs, patients) say about your stitching? I'm curious to see how stitchers and their needlework are valued today. I know here more peope quilt than stitch. Adele

  2. That is looking good! I have it in my stash to do, but it has plenty of competition for my attention.

    Take care of you!!

  3. Being that I am originally from NJ, before moving to the land of dirt, corn and beans, and flat, known as Central Illinois, I am well acquainted with the freaking TastyKakes! Every time we go back, a bevy of boxes follow us home....mostly for our sons, poor displaced souls. I just try to drown my trying for low carb sorrows in pork roll!

  4. I love the Ink Circles piece you are working on, Coni. I keep adding and removing it from my list. I think it is going to be added into a shopping cart soon. Hmmm, maybe we should have salmon and broccoli on Tuesday.

  5. My dad was on dialysis for a few years before he passed away last Match and my brother and I were amazed at how much he could eat and not gain weight, in fact he lost weight but ate 3 large meals a day! I thought maybe that was due to the dialysis but I guess he was just lucky (!)

  7. Beautiful stitching Coni. I had to get tough with myself Sunday due to tight jeans and the need to breathe. I'm back on the treadmill. I enjoy a nice walk outdoors but the second you call it exercise I'm outta there. My own worst enemy :( Good luck with your eating plan!

  8. I sold a lot of Ink Circles patterns in my B&M shop back in the day. I know I saved one when I went out of business, but I doubt I'll ever stitch it. I did have a lot of fun helping customers pick out the right hand-dyed fabric and overdyed thread to complete theirs though. I love her designs, and I had to laugh when you revealed that you didn't realize it was a heart design. Couer is French for heart, ya know? Hahahaha. I love reading your blog.

  9. I was looking at email of ABC Therapy Stitchery today and was amazed at the prices! $30 and $40 for simple charts! Cross stitch is now expensive. Of course you can fine prices in the teens if you search hard enough but phooey.

  10. Beautiful hearts - the thread is pretty too. And really good progress there!
It seems to me that all needlework is an expensive hobby! Terri - try looking in the charity shop bins - they sometimes have kits.

  11. Connie, I am so glad you are feeling better. I was worried about you = that flu bug is nasty stuff. Take good care of yourself and good luck on eating healthier. Happy Stitching.

  13. This will sound like junk mail, but it isn't.

Doris Egan is one of my favourite authors; she only wrote a few novels, but became a screenwriter on House and other TV shows. She has blogged about her weight (and eventual weight loss surgery) and included some eye-opening science.

We all tend to blame our lack of weight loss success on lack of will power. But it is actually genetics, metabolism, hormones, and focus.

Please read this and congratulate yourself on your weight loss battle so far.
