TWO ROOMS.

I decided that the only way to battle these demons is to make a plan.

So in the middle of the night I sat up in bed and decided to tackle two rooms each day...bed and bath on Wednesday, kitchen and dining on Thursday, and living room and studio on Friday.  That way, I figured that I could look forward to Library Guild on Saturday and then think about cleaning out the house starting next week.

Or maybe I'll just abandon the idea all together and just...wait.

I started by stripping the bed and washing the sheets.  I figured that climbing into a freshly made bed tonight might be a good place to start.

Then, I futzed.
Just put little things here and there to make it feel a little better.
And put together the extra shelves for the closet and got the stacks in order.

The bathroom was quick.  Just a change out of the shower curtain rings and the hanging of a picture and some birds.
I also cleared off the counter a bit and gave everything a good scrubbing.  Now it feels a little better.

So now it's time for a bite to eat, a shower, and then some stitching.  Tomorrow I will tackle the kitchen and dining room and think about a quick trip out for some groceries.  My appetite is just non existant, but I need to try to remember to get something decent in me every now and then.

Small steps, but steps nonetheless.  The black dog is still lurking, but at least he was quiter today.

Hope your Wednesday was wonderful...more tomorrow, I promise.

  1. You realize, of course, that your "I just..." is more than I normally accomplish in a week, don't you? You did a lot, my friend. Good to hear. Looks wonderful, very homey. Now eat something and relax a bit. Keeping you in all our thoughts and prayers :):) ox

  2. All you can do Coni is put one foot ahead of the other, keep going. Life goes on whether we want it to or not. At times, it is almost unbearable. You will get through it.

  3. Good for you, Coni! It sounds like a good plan and look at what you accomplished today. Sometimes, the small steps are what is needed. Now, enjoy your evening with your stitching.

  9. I know exactly what you are feeling and you are handling as well as can be expected. I looked into that abyss when my 3 year old grandson went into cardiac arrest in the recovery room after a long surgery. I wanted to scream. I wanted answers. I wanted my life back. Most of all I wanted his life back for him. It is a hard journey but it can get better.

  10. Good for you!!! I love how you pull yourself up and get moving! Sometimes venting can make all the difference. I'm just glad when you decided in the middle of the night on your plan, that you didn't get up and start putting it in action right there and then! Rest, eat healthy and then get organized.

  11. CS2 looks beautiful, Coni. You have a wonderful touch for making your home pretty. I think both of your trinities are working for and with you. You will stay in my prayers.....big unfair battles, but you continue to make victories.

  12. I'm sorry you're sad, and I'm sad with you. I miss pictures of Stewey and your pretty view out your window...and I think your feelings are totally normal. It will take a while to fill your new home with memories enough that it FEELS like home. It will come. In the meantime you are so smart to work on making things cozier, and it looks terrific! Hang in there friend. Sending you hugs and warm fuzzies.

  13. Coni, I missed your column in the current issue of Needlepoint Now. I have always turned to the back page first to see what you are up to. I am happy to have found your blog. I am sorry about your health issues. I have had my bouts of depression and have discovered that stitching and listening to books is a help. Try audio book versions of Alexander McCall Smith -- not demanding but very charming, especially #1 Ladies Detective Agency and 44 Scotland Street series. Check out La's Orchestra Saves the World, a one-off that has become one of my favorites. And don't forget M. C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth and Agatha Raisin quirky, funny mysteries. There are really good readers for the above suggestions. Enjoy! God bless and keep you, Charlotte

  15. I *love* the bathroom. Funny, isn't it, how putting together a single space can make you feel good all over. I just gutted my entire closet. Gave away bags of stuff I never wear anymore. Rearranged everything by color. Now I find excuses to go in, just to admire my handiwork. You have a beautiful tableau in the bathroom. The first of many, I'm sure. Blessings, Indiana Robin

  20. Birthday hugs to our Stewey....He is greatly missed but oh
how he did live and give!! Pure love...oh that humans could achieve that gift-giving spirit...You taught him
well, Coni dear...CS2 taking on a peaceful and orderly
countenance.. if the two rooms per day too daunting, one
will do...just so you maintain motion and your well being.
A fresh shower then fresh bedding...formula for restorative sleep and recovery. The kind of creature comfort that pays off...bolstered by good nutrition.
You "snap back" is consoling to us all...another hurdle
overcome, oh courageous one....Love you with blessings.

  21. I'm reminded of how to eat an elephant (one bite at a time). I think you have a good plan breaking up the whole thing into smaller chunks. It looks great so far!
