TRUTH IN ADVERTISING, OR DEEP DARK SECRETS ON A MONDAY MORNING

My spinster guilt will not allow me to perpetuate the illusion that I live in a scene from the Pottery Barn catalogue, especially since you are all so lovely to comment about how clean and tidy Chez Spinster looks.

Hopefully the following evidence to the contrary will make you feel like Martha Stewart.

Sippy cups taking a bath in the sink:

A dining room table being used as a desk.  (The Swedish fish in the bottom of the frame?  Those?  Um...they're medicinal):

This one has my dear departed mom (and Stewey I'm sure) cringing their perfectly pressed blouses into a knot up there in heaven.  The sheets, I'll have you know, are indeed clean and fresh, as are the blankets...not a whiff of Bosco to be found.  (And yes, to answer your second horrified question (with the Swedish fish being the first) that blue thing is Stewey's blanket and yes, I do sleep with it.  I am a fifty-one year old woman who falls asleep clutching a Target baby blanket that her little dog used to lay on.)  (Don't judge me, please.  I'm grieving.  It's a process.)

I had a photo of all of the laundry on the closet floor that is sorted and waiting for its sploshing, but I just couldn't do it.  There's something about my big girl underpants strewn about that was just too racy for this here blog.

Besides.  This post was supposed to make you feel better about your own homekeeping skills...not cause you to run from the room gouging your eyeballs out!

Finally...yup, you guessed it.  All of this is a completely shameless attempt to distract you from the sad reality of my lack of anything stitching to show.  I haven't had a needle in my hand in a week!  I swear, though, that at 2:30 this afternoon that will change, since I am getting my car serviced and won't have anything else to do BUT stitch!

So, happy happy day to you, dearies!  Do something fun and wonderful that blows your skirt right up and come tell me all about it!

  3. Dear Miss Coni- all these photos go into the chapter of your book that all us 'girlfriends' are mentally writing for you entitled "Keepin' It Real". We wouldn't show our underpanties either; ladies don't do that >;) Enjoy (and I use the term very loosely) your time at the auto shop. -p.

Oh darlin I truly needed that. I laughed so hard the tears almost ran down my leg.
I am so grateful the roll of vinyl is now absent from my livingroom & back on the floor in my son's bedroom where it belongs along with the large desk chair.

  5. Omg, you are human. Thank goodness. It is still not enough to get me to share photos from Chez Ginger. Frankly, my dear, I would post a photo of unmentionables strewn about. Lol. Have a wonderful day with some afternoon stitching.

  7. LOL! I have a line on my daily To Do list that says "Make bed." Guess how often I've checked that off in the last weeks?

  8. Bed is not unmade.... Merely "airing";)

  9. It has been 8 years since we lost our Jack Russell -Roxie and I still have the black sweats that I wore when we took her to have her put out of her misery - that is an easier way for me to think of it. They still smell like her and I hold on to them and cry my eyes out 8 years later - it still hurts even though I have a sweet Jackie also a Jack Russell. I am a number of years older than you so just hang on to that a make sure it doesn't get lost in the move. You will want it on hand when you move to help make your new home fell like home immediately!

  10. When it comes to having a messy house, Coni, you are an amateur!

  11. Monday morning.... Moi's hamper almost overflowing and
contents ready to be sloshed... Women who make their beds complete with tons of pillows each day are suspect... can
you imagine their conversations over lunch? yawn.... Coni
your piles are neatly stacked.. and the soapy cups soaking
away germs BEFORE washing indicates your level of hygiene.
Pat yourself on the back. Now I must attack the hamper.
Have a great day flirting with the mechanics and showing
    off you stitchery prowess..... Blessings

  12. Well, let's see --- two large file boxes of paper goods that need to be shredded or recycled - in the tv room. Christmas dodas still sitting in my office to be put away. Oh, Oh, wait minute - I still have my Easter ornaments out. I guess I am going to have to up my game to be as good as you. Heh, heh, heh..... Just take a very deep breath. Work on one day at a time. That is all anyone should expect. We love you here in our home. Love, Teri, Bear, Lola and Jasmine....

  13. You just failed the 'slob of the year' competition - no fingerprints on that glass dining table, and no dust to write in!

  14. Oh, well. I attempted vacuuming my not very big house yesterday. I do not like vacuuming carpet on stairs. But, I did it! Woot! Even tried cleaning the baseboards. Took forever but I did it. Now, the dusting. Dust? I'll try that another day. Besides, I think it is a furniture protector. So, I'm good. Just throw it all in the closet. Perfect! Have a great stitchy afternoon, Coni!

  15. I wish my "clean" house looked as good as your "messy" house haha. Someday maybe but probably not ha!

  16. Oh pleeeeze Coni, your "mess" is child's play. I use stitching as an excuse not to clean up. Try it.

  18. Coni, I am sorry to tell you that you have failed in your attempt to outdo me as Slob Housekeeper of the Year! A few cups in the sink and a dining room table used as a desk don't even come close to the pandemonium that is Chez Evelyn. I don't think I would even let the fire department in!

  19. It's still a whole lot neater than my place! 😃

  21. Coni, I laughed through your blog and reading the comments. I love how much we are all alike and we're all different. Hugs and prayers, Cathryn

  22. Coni, you are doing fine. I have all my fur-babies blankets in separate bags and I have the shirt I was wearing when I had to let my sweet baby go. They are sacred things. There is just so many hours in the day. Be good to yourself.

  23. Looks good to me! I use to work night shift and my husband worked day shift so someone was in the bed 16 hours a day. I was not making my bed for a measly 8 hour duration! Don't judge me.

  24. So, you are normal/human like the rest of us. Laughed out loud about your sink picture. My kitchen is always in a state of cleaning. Rarely do we make our bed either. But hey, my stitching / coffee table in the living room is covered in projects and baskets of threads. I would be kidding myself if I tried to have every room neat and tidy. Hope you get some stitching in today Coni. Enjoy your day! Cindy in northern Illinois
