IN WHICH OUR CRACKPOT HEROINE MAKES A DECISION

After languishing in the BAP basket for nine years, the Prairie Schooler alphabet project has come out to play.  I pondered the orientation of the linen almost all day yesterday, and thought I had decided on a vertical (rather than horizontal as pictured above) approach, but now I'm changing my mind.  If I go vertical, the bottom row will only have three blocks instead of four, and I think that will end up driving me nuts.

More pondering to ensue...

I had thought about venturing to the Dressing Downton exhibit at the history museum today, but I awoke a bit punk and don't want to push my luck.  I have an appointment tomorrow that will force me out of the house, so I suppose I could postpone a day and hang one more day in pajamas in front of the fireplace.

Maybe I'm becoming a good patient after all!

  1. Is it the size of the blocks? 6x4 = 24 letters of the alphabet. Stay in today and keep warm!

Health is important to being able to stitch well. Have some hot chocolate or tea & snuggle under your blanket in your comfy chair.

  6. Have fun with Prairie Schooler alphabet! I'm just OCD enough that an unequal number of blocks in one row would drive me to distraction too.

  7. With your extra spot, why not put a block with your information as the stitcher: Name and Date and anything else you'd like to put. I bet you could even make it look like it was supposed to be there.

  10. There is?was? a link to a PS alphabet group on Vonna (Twisted Stitcher) site. It is psabcbee.blogspot.com. You should check it out! If you decide to stitch it all as one piece one of the stitchers noted discrepancies in the stitch count on several letters (post from 2/22/10) Anyway LOTS of inspiration. I joined a few years back but did I get more than the letter A done-NO. If you start that will inspire me to get back to it. Although over one??seriously what was I thinking!

  12. I love this so much, have it in my stash, and have no idea when I will get to it. But, I agree, orient it however works for you to hang something so large. I think I will need a new house or wall if the time ever comes.

  13. The PS alphabet has been one of my favorites for a long time. It's in my to do box and hopefully will get it started this year. I have several large samplers that are on their last leg and I need to finish those before starting a new one.

  14. Not sure if I should be throwing out this plug, but you've mentioned coloring and your ipad "thingie" in previous blogs. I found a wonderful free download called Cross-Stitch World. It's basically a color by number into a grid that makes a cross stitch. The pictures are great fun and I do it when I'm tired and feeling blah. It's also inspired me to get cross-stitching!

  15. With respect to your debacle with the ort jars...check at Meijer or K-Mart (if they are still in your area)...I believe both chains carry glass Ball jars, they just might carry the plastic ones as well. Or you could use peanut butter jars, i.e. Skippy, various sizes similar too Ball jars...just a thought...one Hoosier to another

  16. But if you center the last blocks, it would look ok.
Have a fun day in your PJ's!

  24. I have been thinking of doing this one as well. I think it is easiest to view horizontally, but I like the idea of it vertically. My concern is that some blocks are 71, 72 and 74 stitches wide, but most are 70. So, the centering is hard for me to visualize. I start in the upper left corner, not the middle, so I'm worried about lining them up. I'm sure you have seen Thread Garden's flosstube video about it. It is such a challenge! You go first! Good luck.

  25. Is it needlepoint or Cross stitch?

  26. Love the PS Alphabet project. I remember seeing one that someone posted that was done vertically. They added another square that had a winter or Christmas theme to it as the last square and it really did look nice. I don't remember where I saw it posted, but I would think that you could easily add another pattern or a portion of a PS pattern to the alphabets and it would look nice all together. Just a thought in case you really want to do a vertical piece. Happy stitching.............

  27. Your sampler is going to be wonderful. It would be hard for me not to venture out to see that exhibit if I was close to it.
    Hugs and feel better.

  28. I stitched this alphabet vertically. Top and bottom rows are three letters each, middle rows are 5 blocks wide. Then in each of the corners I sttiched three little blocks (choose whatever letters you like) and then one of these: dates stitched, my name, my city and state, and "The Prairie Schooler Alphabet."
