AND A LITTLE BIT MORE...

I'm sure that there are about a million ways I'm stitching this incorrectly and that those of you who routinely cross stitch these BAPs are just chomping at the bit to tell me (waving a big fat "Hello!" to Betty), but I just do not care one single little bit.

(I do, however, simply love love love tips and tricks, so if you've got any, I'll take 'em!)

Call it maturity or finally coming into my own or maybe, just maybe, the meds have finally kicked in, but I'm all done with any rules or negativity when it comes to this thing of ours.  It is my humble opinion that any time spent with needle in hand...whether it be a threaded needle with silk, floss, or yarn, or a crochet hook or knitting needle or quilting needle or rug hook...is time well spent indeed.

I love all forms of stitching, whether it be counted cross stitch, canvaswork, needlepoint, crewel, or embroidery.  I don't do any of them with any particular excellence, but that's perfectly fine, since I am not trying to be the world's foremost leading authority on anything at all, especially not on needlework.

I'm just a portly spinster with a sick little dog and shriveled up little kidneys who is trying to find her way in the world.  I stitch so that the Happy Chair remains my happy place, so that my mind and fingers stay limber, and so that I can feel like I'm part of something bigger than myself.  Stitching gets me out of my head, challenges me to try new things, teaches me perseverance and patience, and gives me heaps and heaps of satisfaction that does not result in me having to buy bigger sweatpants like eating something truly decadent does.

So...it's all good, my dears.  I'm just going to keep doing me.  You just keep doing you, and we'll all be fine together.  Keep those needles flying in whatever form you choose, have some fun, and come tell us all about it!

  3. Vaceila is looking good, Coni. I think if how you are stitching her works for you, you need to continue on that way. Enjoy your day!

  7. Stitcher's have several different ways of approaching their art. I agree with your approach.....my own personal enjoyment. My projects will never make the Stitcher's Hall of Fame, but I'm having so much fun moving through each step of the process from start to finish. The most exciting is the start.

  10. My philosophy, as far as needle arts are concerned, is that there are no mistakes. If it looks different than it's supposed to it is either a design feature, a new type of stitch, or a personal interpretation. It's all good and, Coni, your pieces are always stunning!

  13. You get it!!! And, by the way, your stitching is well done and beautiful. FYI, your Bargello Challenge is technically very well done. The big thing is please yourself...

  14. I remember teaching myself to quilt and was very aware of the patchwork "police' and in it's own way it spoiled things for me. You're so right in that moving that needle and thread through the fabric is the therapeutic part. Keep taking pleasure from that.

  15. Well said... Do what you do to please yourself... there is no "wrong" in "creativity, and as far as I know, there is no "needle police" to come after you for it

  16. Your stitching is beautiful and your projects are stunning. I'm a BAPer and one thing I do is turn my scroll rods so that the top is close to me and that way I'm not rubbing my hand/arm over the stitched areas. Just a thought. It sure makes my stitching life easier.

  19. Needlework is a form of meditation for me....focusing intently on one thing. I've been having mojo problems recently but I'm persevering and hope to be enraptured soon! I love seeing your piece, it is lovely.

  20. "The rhythm of the needle is music to my soul" - I can't remember who wrote that, but it has always stayed in my memory and just about sums up why I stitch! Happy stitching Coni! xx

  25. The sum of all our fears, the Spinster makes perfect sense of the crazy passion we all share called needlework, I guess. The happy, creative community that we are thanks you Coni for your encouraging words.

  26. I am new to your blog and it's so refreshing and funny, stitching is fun and there are great folks out there to share our passion. Ton's are better than me but I don't care, I am having a grand time. I love the way you do your chart above where you are stitching and marking it as you go. It works for me. Thanks for showing how you do it.

  27. You are really going to town on this one.
    So pretty.
The skirt is really intricate, but it will be beautiful.
    Keep going!

  28. Coni, I was taught many years ago by a museum curator that any "mistake" in a stitched piece is what makes the piece an HEIRLOOM, so heck, stitch and change however YOU wish! You are making beautiful, gorgeous & colorful heirlooms that will be much appreciated by others someday! I LOVE your blog and being able to peek into your world. You are a very special woman & your babies are so sweet and special, too! Keep stitching! Connie

  33. It is gorgeous!! And we all stitch differently, I don't think there is one way that is more right than the other so don't let Betty rain on your stitching parade! :)
