FIDDLESTICKS.

Well, so much for a happy, peaceful evening in the Happy Chair.  Is it possible that I've used up all of my good stitchy karma for the year already and we're back to frustration, aggravation, and all of the other bothersome "tions" known to man?

I tried.  I really did.  But the Housewives were screaming, the boys were futzing, and I simply could not see a damn thing as I tried to make any progress on A Different View.  No matter what I tried...moving my stitchy light, using the white fabric thingie that Miss Charlene gave me, cleaning my glasses, praying a novena...nothing worked.  And the harder I tried, the harder I failed and the more Kreinik I had to rip out.

So...executive decision today.  I am going to put this back in its lovely little project bag, breathe, reboot, and head up to the studio to pick something else.  I am in no state of mind to fight with the one thing that is keeping me from entering that "special facility", so methinks a few hours pawing through my stash should set the world right again.

Stewey's theory is that we need a vacation, but mine is that I just need a minute to regroup.  So don't cry for me Argentina...all matter of things shall be well just as soon as I shake off this ickyness and move back into the land of rainbows and unicorns.

Woo Hoo!

  1. When next you try to tackle this (or any black canvas), try placing a book light (I have a small square Ott light I got at JoAnn's that I use for this) in your lap shining up on the backside of the canvas. It helps.

  2. Have you tried a clip-on magnifier? It makes a world of difference, believe me.

  3. I second the book light under and perhaps the clip on magnifier over. Or work on it during the day and something else in the evening. And Coni, this is just a blip in the road. Enjoy your weekend!

  4. I use my iPhone or iPad with the flashlight turned on - it is a super bright light and shining up from the backside makes all the difference in the world.

  5. I was going to say the same as Karen. Shine I light up the back of the stitch.

  6. Sometimes the only thing that works for me is natural sunlight.

  7. It is amazing how much knowledge there is in the stitchy commmunitiy. I will have to pull out a dark background porject and try this. Thanks to Karen and Denise.

  8. Black canvas is impossible for me, you have stuck with it far longer than I ever could or would! It definitely needs to go to time out for a spell.

  9. I can only stitch on black in daylight. Keep the faith!

  10. All the above a good suggestions, but if it's not fun don't do it. Some projects are there just to wreak havoc with our heads. Yes, yes, yes, you have the right idea to put it away and find something enjoyable!

  11. Sorry you had a bad day stitching. You are right, you just have to put it down and regroup. It really is a lovely piece. I hope your next project goes smoothly.

  12. Don't blame you for sending it on a time out. Stitching is supposed to be fun not work. Can't wait to see what you choose next :)

  13. I think you made a good decision. Stitching should be a "happy place" in your "happy chair". :D Cathryn

  15. Stitching on black canvas is evil - but the effects of that same black canvas are magnificent.

  16. Do you use any magnification?? I always preach more light and magnification!! It makes life much, much simpler and less frustrating. The upright suggestions are great. But as I have gotten older I realize how much I need "more" help, at least for cross stitch.
