IF LOVING THIS IS WRONG....

Don't you just want to pat its little corn mealed bottom and coo gently to this? I swear, this damn bread has become an obsession. I polished off loaf #1 yesterday at lunch and thought about loaf #2 all night in my sleep. (It certainly didn't help matters that I discovered yet another ridiculously wonderful thing to put on sandwiches...avocado spread! Mash an avocado with some garlic, onion salt, pepper, lemon juice, and a little Tabasco and you've got a wonderful alternative to mayo (if you're in to that sort of thing). I am. Trust me.)

What this tells me is that I really need to get a hobby.

Oh wait! I do have a hobby! Stitching! From the looks of it, though, you'd think that I had packed it all in and hadn't put thread to needle in months. Sure feels that way, but I'm feeling a little better about it now that I read that so many of you too are in a stitchy schlumpafunk.

Exhibit A
measley, lousy, pitiful little progress on Rainforest Crunch

In order to snap out of it, methinks I will pull all of the WIP's out of their basket and lay them out on the guest bed like I did last year. That seemed to help quite a bit in the "what the heck do I stitch now department", so I'm willing to give it a try. Anything to feel like I'm not a big "The Book Group" watching blob every night. (Have you seen that show? On Ovation? About two or three years old?). Between that and "Be Good Johnny Weir" it's a wonder my brain hasn't rotted right out of my head.

Stewey is peeved at me today. Every time I go into the kitchen to talk to the bread he gets pissy and stomps off to the family room. I think he's hatching a plot.
"She thinks what I do to the drapes is ugly....wait till she sees what I come up with for that damn bread."

That would be the goings on for a sunny Tuesday here in Hoosierville, kids! Stay tuned for more bread news at 11!

  1. Coni,

I see nothing wrong with loving bread! LOL I LOVE bread! and cheese, and chocolate, and wine but I digress....Actually, I have quite a few cookbooks on different breads, and they are in a box down the basement amongst my other books! Arghh...gonna get a damm library someday! It's a good thing though, that I don't bake as much as I would love to! I also love RAW dough!!! :P

Rainforest looks lovely as usual, and don't feel bad about not getting any stitching done. I just finished a piece for my niece (a rhyme!) and I want to stitch, but don't want to either! I blame the hour change and the fact that spring is just waiting to be sprung and that we are all antsy in anticipation of it!

Anyhoo, how about a photo group of your Island of Misfit Toys. I would love to see all the ones you didn't finish yet - maybe you have a pattern in there that I have to add to my stash wish list!!! :D

    Hugs to you and Stewey!

  2. I love bread too. I used to have a bread machine and finally had to give it away. Seems that I was making and eating all the bread and of course when you add butter, cheese, all kinds of spreads then it goes straight to your hips! Here is hoping you have more control that me. And your stitching is lovely as always. I've been busy cleaning and organizing and haven't done nearly the stitching that I would like to. Maybe I'll get all my WIPs out as well and something will inspire me.

  3. I'm a bread addict. I had to relegate the bread machine to the basement because my derriere got to be the size of Rhode Island.

I never knew Stewey had such a stink-eye. If looks could kill, honey, Aunt Chrissy would be calling the undertaker.

  4. I made a loaf of that bread today. Actually, I started it last night so it could sit for 15 hours and then finished it today. It is a masterpiece!! Almost too pretty to cut...I said "almost"..haha!!

  7. Oooooooeeeee! That is a beautiful little lump of bread dough. The avocado spread sounds great too. Will you show us pics of your guest bed covered with your WIPs? I seem to recall seeing this last time and it was so amazing to see all the great pieces you have in the works.

  8. I have just picked up baking bread again myself. I have joined Michelle's healthy bread group over at http://www.bigblackdogs.net/ I made a Pesto/Pine loaf and whole wheat sandwich bread last week. Skipping this week because I have a fun 3 day quilt shop hop trip with some friends and I know we will be eating enough that I do not need to add a loaf of bread to the week. I eat a lot more of it than my hubs does.

  9. I too love to bake bread. I have some leftover oatmeal that I plan on making into bread tomorrow or maybe Thursday. I may have to try the Irish Soda bread too. It looks delicious! And I want to see the guest bed covered with WIPs too!

  12. Bread is one of the best things in life! It's the yeast that'll get ya!!

I think Stewey needs a hobby, tee hee. Maybe then he won't get so upset when you don't pay him enough attention. But he is such an adorable little thing too...hmmm!

    Have fun making your breads.

  13. Can you post the recipe for the bread Coni?

Stewey, behave yourself! You can be replaced you know....by warm, yummy, soft, butter melting on top bread...

  14. Bread! YUM!!

Stewey - be good and leave the bread alone!

  15. The bread looks wonderful!! I could live on bread and butter alone. Especially homemade bread. There's nothing better! Except maybe homemade pizza, which I could also live off of! Rainforest Crunch is looking beautiful!! I really love this design. It's so pretty!!

  16. I think the bread looks wonderful. I've never had any luck making my own, or it would be a staple around here!

Love your progress on Rainforest! I've been in a stitching slump too - nothing is calling or waving at me madly. Maybe I should follow your lead and go play around with everything and hopefully something will scream for me to start it.

  17. O yes I do want to pat it's little cornmeal bottom! Rainforest Crunch is even prettier than it's pattern cover photo. It's going to be a real stunner! And, I would bet Stewart is feeling a little neglected with all the bread-love in the air. Just give him an extra pat and maybe a bite of warm bread and he'll be better!

  18. Oh Coni!! Too funny! And yes, I do feel very much like patting it. My darker side, huh? ;) You tell Stewey to behave. Rigby and Lola love getting any bread leftovers.

  19. ROFLOL at Stewey's thoughts about the bread. My son & I got into making Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls over the Christmas break. DE-lish. YUM. I had to stop making them after I was hatching plots about how I could take the pans into the closet and eat the whole thing. Anyhoo, I loved punching that dough down. Talk about fun! I would imagine MIL's face on the bread and punch it even more. Very fun.

    Your Rainforest looks great!

  20. Rainforest Cruch is looking great, Coni!

I hope stewey is feeling better!

  21. Your bread-ventures are going fabulously! Mmmmmm, avocado spread isn't definitely in my future. That and a little turkey and some provolone .... yum.

That Rainforest thingy is to die for. Almost makes me wanna run out and get it, but I have the stitchy slump thing going also. Maybe we'll all pop out of it soon.
