I'LL TAKE MILDLY COMPLUSIVE FOR $100, ALEX

Sometimes I really wonder about myself. I like to think that I go about the business of my day like most folks do, but then something happens that makes me scratch my head in wonder and go running for the self-help aisle at Borders.

In the photo above, you'll see the latest progress on "Shenandoah Spring". Looks pretty good, doesn't it? Now while most people would be thinking to themselves "Gee, that's a really pretty design and lovely color palette", all I could think last night was "Why can't my Ginghers be just a TITCH closer to the floss colors."

Eye yai yai. For about seven hours last night I sat in the Happy Chair laying floss and lusting over Gordon Ramsey on the TeeVee, but my eyes kept darting over to the arm of the chair on which the offending scissors were perched. I OBSESSED about these damn scissors. At one point, I think I even contemplated heading upstairs to the studio to see if I had any acrylic paint or possibly a magic marker that would enable me to modify the color of the handles just a TITCH to get it into a more suitable tonal pattern.

The TITCHES will eventually be the death of me, I'm sure. I seem to fixate on something that is perfectly acceptable in whatever form it is, but my brain tells me that if it were just a little teeney tiny TITCH to the left or to the right or fatter or thinner or bigger or smaller then I'd be happy. Then I obsess about the TITCH until I get tired and cranky and call it a night.

So today, as I type this I look at the scissors and say to myself "Who knew I had scissors that were so perfectly matched to this project? Woo Hoo for me!". And then I go slice a peach and get on with my day.

Do you suppose there's a drug for this?

  1. I've complused over things before but never that! :-) Your stitching is perfect. Is that your laying tool next to the piece? It's so pretty! I have a metal one but that hand turned wood one is really calling to me. :-)

  6. Gorgeous stitching and if you're obsessing about the scissors, my advice is to put those away and get a "neutral" looking pair out and finish your stitchy...LOL

The "drug" is called Jack Daniels!!

  7. Beautiful shades of green and who can tell that the scissors are not exactly the same hues?

  8. For me, the drug is called "compulsive scissor collector" and "compulsive fiber collector" and then you always have something that matches. And I second Colleen that said, find a neutral pair of scissors and finish that lovely piece. Can't wait to see if completed. You are an amazing stitcher, and you can tell yourself I said so! There isn't a 'titch' I'd change about you!

  9. I bet you wouldn't consider changing out the thread in that project, would you?

    I didn't think so! ;-)

  10. Thud! - your progress is stunning. I'm also one of the mob who say - change the scissors to a neutral pair - heck! send the offending ones to me if you like! I've yet to purchase a gingher - might have to go investigate a pair. I need a new obsession too!

  13. Oh, there are PLENTY of drugs to take for that -- some legal, some not. But all of them interfere with stitching, so I can't recommend them at all.

  14. Your stitching is BEAUTIFUL! And really, isn't it great to obsess about stitching or pretty pictures showing your stitching or lovely scissors next to beautiful stitching? What could be better?!

Do me a favor and give Stewey some extra cuddles for me. I'm really missing my best friend right about now. Sigh.

  15. Hmmm, and I was just thinking how beautiful the scissors coordinate with the stitching, which by the is beautiful.

  16. Your stitching is beautiful as always. I am always thinking where is that pair of scissors??? I know I just saw them. I don't use pretty scissors though, with two males in the house my scissors always end up cutting things they shouldn't, like legos.

  17. And, uh, why exactly are you looking at the scissors when there's all that GORGEOUS stitching to admire? I'll loan you my plain ol' gold pair if you promise to finish this lovely piece and share another picture.

  19. Oooh, oooh, oooh, so pretty. Let's see ... a drug for obsessive behavior ... yep, certainly there is one. But why? It's so much more entertaining when you obsess.
