A NIGHT AT THE THEE AY TER

Wow. King Lear did NOT disappoint! JB and I went to one of the last performances of it in the Shakespeare Festival...the 25th annual...that has been on campus at Notre Dame for the last ten days. It was fantastic, but can I tell you a secret?

I would have been completely lost without my pre-month of studying. 🙄

This was, believe it or not, my first live performance of a Shakespeare play, and I was THRILLED to be able to follow along and understand what was going on and recognize the characters and understand some of the nuances and such. My JB went into it cold...not having read or seen Lear before, and he said he was able to enjoy it as well, but let's face it....his brain is a lot bigger than this little thing in my head that keeps me from walking into traffic or pushing when I should pull.

(But only occasionally).

So a night out followed by a good long sleep and now another beautiful day. It's cool enough for a Snoopy sweatshirt, but sunny and perfectly swell out there in Hoosierville, so I think I'll take advantage of it and enjoy a few stitches before making stuffed peppers for dinner.

Happy Friday, Dearies! If you're here in the US and heading into the Labor Day holiday, what's cookin?

  1. Here in Canada, it’s Labour Day weekend and I’m roasting lamb and sweet potatoes for dinner (lamb and yam). Enjoying *brisk* weather at the beach with a long-time friend, in between stitching and walking.

  2. It is hot hot hot here in SoCal! It's in the high 80s (coastal SoCal) but feels much warmer and it's downright toasty in the San Fernando Valley & San Gabriel Valley hitting the 100s. Palm Springs is hovering between 107-112. Typical Labor Day weather. Not doing much of anything except drinking water and reading my Kindle.🥵🔥😑🙄

  5. Your outing to the theater sounded grand, Coni. Glad you had a marvelous time! Your coffee Quaker is looking good and I hope you get in a good bit of stitching time over this Labor Day weekend.

  6. Loved Shakespeare class in high school and read many of his works. Ribs are the weekend featured meat. I bought too much and am cooking them in 3 batches in my instant pot. Then potato salad, fruit and cornbread. Glad JB is back.

  7. I'm glad you had a good time at the Shakespeare theatre. I really appreciate hearing about someone else studying beforehand to really enjoy the performance. Shakespeare is amazing but I must confess that his work is a real struggle to get through. I enjoy it, and someday I will plow through the wonderful leather-bound, gold embossed tome of his complete works that was my mother's.....
