TUESDAY

Well, Dearies, your hapless portly spinster is just plain old out of sorts. I don't know if it's new meds, or our hot and humid weather, or the general July ughs, or the unbearable stress of waiting for this kidney, or the general horror show that is dialysis, but the truth of the matter is that I am feeling very much like Hugh Grant in Four Weddings And A Funeral...I think I need to be where other people are not.

Our pool is closed because of a broken pump issue, so I will need to just make do with some time in my Happy Chair with some stitching, I think, since floating it all away won't be possible for a few days.

(Either that, or I think a nice long nap in the big girl sleigh bed might be in order.)

So bear with me and stay tuned, please. I'll snap out of it eventually and will climb back up on my glitter-covered unicorn and hop the daisy field full of rainbows once again.

Talk amongst yourselves and come tell me all about your corner of the world!

  1. Coni, Im going to give you something to think about. Its completely selfish on my part but I need some expert advice. When you start a new cross stitch project do you start in the center? If not, do you have one of those square doo-hickys that allow you to measure at the top left of your project once you find the "finished" measurements of the project. If thats the case how does that work for you? Im an old lady and only knew of one way to start a project (and that was finding the enter, and working outward). Any other feedback would be welcomed. In the meantime, snuggle in, rest and give yourself some TLC. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

    1. Hi, Theresa! I seem to start most things in the lower left corner and work my way up the design. Exceptions to that would be the geometrics...those I start in the center.

I find the center of the fabric and stick a pin to mark, then measure super super carefully to all of the corners and mark those as well. This ensures that I have the design centered on the linen and that I'm starting properly. Most charts give a design size, so it's easy to check and double check!

But...having said all of that...I think you should stitch exactly how you want to and in whatever fashion gives you peace and joy.

    2. Thanks Coni, never thought to mark the corners after finding the center. Have a great day.

  2. I think it the general "blah" from the Dog days of summer. Hopefully, it will pass. Stay cool and keep on stitching!

  3. It's tough dealing with heat and humidity even when we feel healthy, which you don't. I have a three year old grand daughter who gets me outside under the shade tree to play, such a blessing. I'm so hoping your kidney arrives soon and dialysis can be over.

  4. Hi Coni! I do believe "battling the blahs" is tougher in this oppressive heat! In mid-Minnesota, we combine that with a severe drought and "air you have to chew" because it's so thick with forest fire smoke from further north and in Canada. Today, you could barely see across the street!!! It isn't even our "dry month" yet . . . that comes with August, my least favorite month in Minnesota. This summer has been like "August on Steroids"! Sounds like fussing over much that is NOT in our control and that's tough. Wholesome diversion is the only option . . . that with a big dose of denial, will get us through. God bless and "this too shall pass". Love, Marcia.

  5. I always blame the heat. And when I can't use that excuse, I blame the rain. But excessive heat frazzles everyone. We are now in a bit of a heatwave - melting whereas a week ago it was still blanket and quilt! Meds probably are contributing a little and your frustrations fuel the fire. One deep breath or two, have a look around and see how good your place is and the lovely balcony that you can enjoy and your super sewing. It is all good, so relax, play and have plenty of "me" time.

  6. Take as much time as you need! My life is filled with soccer as the moment. 4 nights a week and a tournament for the next two weekends. Thankfully I can get some stitching done at the games.
