OVERWHELMED

I know I said I wasn't going to talk about this further, but I am overwhelmed by your loving concern! Dearies, I wanted to tell you that I am doing everything I possibly can to remain safe and healthy. I have cancelled/postponed/re-scheduled any and all appointments that I have and will only be leaving the friendly confines of CS2 for dialysis.

On that front, I just talked to our Practice Manager. Tomorrow, there will be a team in the outer lobby to test every person who walks through the door. We will be given full protective gear...mask, gloves, gown...and if we are cleared will be able to enter the clinic area for treatment. If a fever is detected we will be transported to the hospital immediately.  All staff will be tested in the same way each day when they come to work.

I appreciate that this sounds like overkill, but as I reminded Betty, dialysis is ambulatory life support and many of us receiving it are already in seriously compromised positions due to other health issues like cancer, diabetes, or (in my case) Crohns. We literally put our lives into these people's hands and rely on them to keep us safe, so wearing protective gear and following the rules is the very least I can do for me, for them, and for my fellow patients.

No, I am not going to Mass or to the grocery or to Dr Melfi or to the salon or the Targets or anyplace else at the moment. I was told to stay home and stay home I shall.

Please, dear friends, I beg you. Take care of yourselves.

  1. You are definitely part of the most at-risk population regarding the virus. Glad the medical team is taking it serious for all of you.

  3. Since dialysis day will be your only venture forth, it is comforting to know they are taking such all-encompassing precautions. You are fortunate that in being contained, your
giftedness will keep you more than occupied. You should have
the equivalent of the Bayeaux tapestry completed by the end
of this siege.... Take care, dear one.

  6. I'm so glad to hear about all the important precautions that are being taken to keep you (and all other dialysis patients) healthy. Although it's so difficult, you've made the best decision to remain at home except for dialysis. This is certainly a stressful time for so many. I hope you can relax and enjoy stitching, coloring, watching TV, napping, etc., and continue to take care of yourself. I'm keeping you in my prayers.

  9. Dear Coni, please take care of yourself and try to stay out of mischief while this whole virus thing blows over. I liked your description of the dialysis situation of "ambulatory life support." I never thought of it that way, but it is so very true.

Stay safe and stitch (and read and color!).

  10. Thank you, Coni, for sharing this with us. We worry about you!!

And on that note, what you have written is a good reminder to those of us who are able to go out to stores, faith buildings, etc., to:
    *wash our hands,
    *do the sleeve sneeze/cough,
*consider what social distancing we can practice,
*consider the needs of neighbours who might be unable or too fearful to go to the store, and
    *share the toilet paper!

  11. Coni, so glad to hear you are staying safe at home. This is NOT overkill. It is smart and LIFE supporting.

More tips to add to Susan Anonymous' list: turn on wall light switches with your elbow. Carry and use your own pen! If you need to wash your hands in a public restroom, dry your hands with paper towels and then use the paper towel to open the door.

    Stay healthy!

  12. Smart girl! You take care of you, be mindful if others and no one else's opinion matters. Love, hugs and prayers to you and your fellow dialysis mates.

  13. So pleased you are keeping yourself out of harm's way as much as possible. I did laugh at the Dr Melfi bit - probably give you a ton of viagara. Chin up not anything else - very difficult being ladies!
Wishing everyone on here good health as my mum (91) has been worrying so much. She is in good health and no underlying issues - for her age it's a good position to be in. Then next I worry about my children (daft, I know, but they will be fine I'm sure). So quilt retreat - no news and keeping 3ft away from people is going to be difficult as we are back to back! LOL! Oh well . . . once more into the breach dear friends xxx

  16. Glad to hear you are listening to common sense. You have food, water, books, stitching...I think that's everything you need!!!
Big question of the day, How is Betty contacting you? I don't see her posts. I think you should block her as she has been tormenting you for a long time.

  17. Just wondering if your Blogger people can do a thing for you to click on for security so that you don't get so much spam mail. A lot of blogs I read have something to tick to show they are humans rather than an automated technobotty thingy. You can tell I have no idea of the proper terms! That Annie was a right old pain in the derriere - she should see Dr Melfi! LOL!

  19. I am currently training with my husband to be able to due his dialysis at home - I have two more weeks. Last week, the staff was called into a emergency meeting, and when they came out, we were all gowned, masked and gloved - and everyone who enters the door gets the same treatment. That was very reassuring.
