DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHO THE PATRON SAINT OF WEIGHT LOSS MIGHT BE?

Twenty pounds.

Twenty stupid blessed rassafrattin bloody damn pounds.

OK, Dearies. I need you all to summon whatever supernatural powers or prayers or voodoo or witchcraft that you have at your disposal to help me lose twenty pounds.

Twenty pounds.

At this moment, my life depends on it.

I have a plan and am going to follow that plan to within an inch of its life, but a little extra help never hurt anybody, especially a 53-year old pre-menopausal rolly polly spinster with no thyroid and who needs a new kidney.

So...let the adventure begin!

  1. St. Margaret of Cortona is the patron saint of weight loss.

  2. Have you tried the weight watcher plan. It always works for me and there's no special food to buy. Meetings are optional but they seem to help me. Good Luck!

  3. I just had to look up Saint Margaret of Cortona and as well as her patronage of weight loss she is also the patron saint of the falsely accused, hoboes, homeless, insane, orphaned, mentally ill, midwives, penitents, single mothers, reformed prostitutes, stepchildren, and tramps. :) I will say prayers to her for you because she certainly should be able to help.

  5. I will suggest trying the whole 30 program. Google it for free info. It worked for me, but the first two weeks were pure Hell. It's really not meant to be a weight loss program, but a program to figure out what foods your body has adverse reactions to in your normal diet. But boy, I lost weight and felt soooo much better. The plan is to cut out diary, sugar (real and chemical), wheat, (Processed food), soda, and ground nuts (peanuts) for 30 days. If you mess up, you have to start your thirty days over. My saving grace was the fact that you could eat as much as you wanted of program foods and you could have fruit and white potatoes...just be careful of the frozen potatoes as most contain added sugar. At the end of your 30 days you can slowly start adding back in the taboo foods to see how your body reacts (stomach issue? fatigue?)

I just kept repeating the 30 day program until Christmas....

I need to get back on the wagon again. Good luck, Coni. Weight loss is no joke. :(

  8. Join a group, I know it goes against the grain as it is meeting people. But everyone in it has a common goal.

The battle may be lost , but the war is still to be won.

Like you I'm trying to win the war and have been for a very long time, so I'm going to take my advice and rejoin this week.

    Carry on the good fight!!!!

  11. Coni, you can even do weight watchers online if you don't want to go to meetings, tho they are very helpful! There is an interactive part to the WW website so you can speak to a leader if you have questions. It works by allowing you to eat all foods, in proper portions to your body weight now to have you lose weight and keep you healthy by teaching you to eat food that gives you the daily amount of vitamins and minerals you need to have a healthy body. Good luck! It's really not a hard plan to follow. I lost 37 pounds in 6 months.

  13. Good luck to you. Losing weight after 50 is very hard. I'm on the keto diet and have lost 12 and am maintaining but have not lost any more. I started mid May.
My exercise is down do to an Achilles' tendon strain.
You'd think the patron saint of weight loss would be named Fatima

  14. Coni - seems that a lot of readers (me included) could do with losing some weight. Perhaps you might like to consider hosting a Weight Loss A Long?? (like a stitch a long but a focus on losing weight). Many people say that they find it easier to make behavioural changes when they buddy up with one or more other people who have similar goals. And if you think it would help you to have some online buddies, I'm sure that many many of your readers would love to get involved as one small way of giving something back to you for all the time and thought you invest in writing your blog posts each day.

  16. Keeping a food journal was a real eye-opener for me. I need to go back to that & start doing a better job of portion control. I don't need to eat half a cow for dinner, a small steak will do! LOL

  17. Gosh I have a very stubborn 25 pounds to lose as well. Stick to the basics. I have a couple of friends who are on WW and it's worked for them. I had Weight loss surgery 10 years ago and lost 200 pounds but these last few are extremely annoying! Stick to the basics I tell myself. Sometimes works up and down the same 10 pounds. Drat!

  18. losing weight after 50 as a woman is the WORST!!!! one of the things that i learned in to set attainable and "user friendly" goals. Example is 20 lbs. sounds like a lot BUT i need to lose 20 and my first goal is to lose 5 lbs and then celebrate by rewarding yourself with some lovely calorie free fabric when you hit that first Five.... maybe some beautiful new threads for the next 5 etc... you would have a wonderful new project to share at the end of your journey. Oh and portion control and sploshing in the pool are a must... HANG IN THERE if you can do the D-Chair yo can do this. and you have a super set of cheerleaders!!!!!!!

  19. Cheering you on! I have done well on WW and need to do it again. It's pretty easy to follow; there are lots of zero point foods and splurge points are built in. You don't have to eliminate any food groups. Please post progress/frustrations so we can support you.
