I SWEAR, THAT TREE IS SCREWING WITH ME...

Do you remember, about a year ago, when Stewey and I saw the bright yellow tree out back with the one red leaf smack dab in the middle of it?

Remember?  I waxed all poetical and took a craptastic photo of it:
See?  Right there in the middle.  One.  Red.  Leaf.

So today I came home from an all day outing with my Guild Sisters...my first since Stewey died, and as I was passing him in his little wooden box on his perch on the back of the loveseat, something caught my eye out the back window:
Can you see it?  Right there in the middle of the tree?

Look closely....

Right damn smack in the middle of that tree is a bright red cardinal.

Yup.  A bright red cardinal.  If my old wives tales are up to date and accurate, I think that when you see a bright red cardinal, it means that a loved one that has passed is thinking of you.  Or hovering nearby. Or something to that effect.

All I do know is that the universe is either telling me that everything is going to be OK and that Stewey is having a grand time of it up there wherever he is, or I have finally flipped my wig entirely and a bright red cardinal smack dab in the damn middle of a green tree means nothing other than it's cardinal tree sitting time and that I might want to consider upping my meds.

So...that's what happened here today.  What's up in your neck of the woods?

  1. i have heard something to that effect about cardinals/redbirds but cannot remember what exactly either. Do not, I repeat do not, go to the mall! I had to pick up something today so I 'girded up my loins' and headed out....after hours of crying babies, etc. I was able to pickup my stuff and head for the calm and quiet of home. So now I will try to get some more done on a small gift for a nephew.

  2. Oh Coni! Yes, yes and yes! I have heard that old wive's tale and experienced it, too! I had cardinals in my yard with a beautiful white snowfall last winter after my mom died. I had beautiful small white butterflies a couple weeks ago when it was so cold here in the NorthEast when butterflies have been long gone...to me they signal my precious daughter, Kaitlin, who passed at 20 yrs old from cancer. Stewey always had a sense of humor and I believe he wanted to give you some comfort, love, awe and a good sense of relief. Enjoy every second of it!!

  3. Glad you got out for awhile with friends to do some stitching and take your mind off your problems. You should have the ladies for a Christmas lunch since your house looks so pretty for Christmas. Your menus always sound so good.

  7. Your wig is on nice and tight, just allow yourself to feel good.About six months after my Dad died, I saw an owl every day twice a day,I knew it was not my father, but it brought me a lot of comfort,I grabbed on tight, wouldn't let go.After two weeks I never saw that or any other owl again, but the hurt was healed. Smile, let the sun warm your face, breath in the cool air...just live for today.Soon you'll be ready for tomorrow.

  9. I have had "cardinal experiences" after losing my mother and my husband! I'm a believer! I copied this from a FB page called "The Recycled Catholic" Here is their explanation:
A Cardinal is a representative of a loved one who has
passed. When you see one, it means they are visiting
you. They usually show up when you most need them
or miss them. They also make an appearance during
times of celebration as well as despair to let you know
they will always be with you. Look for them, they'll
    appear.

  13. I recently heard that one too. It made me a bit sad because up here in Calgary we don't see Cardinals ever. But for you I think it's a sign that the universe is unfolding as it should and things will work out for the best.

  14. Any time I have an experience like you did today, I believe it is my loved one dropping by to say hello, that they are there, that our love for each other still goes on, and that they wish me well in this life. It's very comforting. Take that cardinal as a sign that Stewey's with you and wants you to be happy and do what brings you peace and joy. I think you're doing amazingly!

  16. My mom passed 40 years ago and I have had similar experiences when feeling down, only with flowers blooming in mid-winter and pieces of piano music she used to play popping up on the radio or tv. Maybe she is sending me a hug, I like to think so.

  17. Yep, I would up those meds immediately and call in the mental health professionals! 😂. Just kidding!!! Seriously, I truly believe it is a sign from above and I am glad you had it. It is like I told you, Stewey is living in your ❤️. He is definitely letting you know he is still there!

  18. Oh yes, he's letting you know he's ok, how wonderful to see his message!

  19. Glad you got to visit with the girls. I am not a "signs/meaning" person. To me a cardinal that keeps returning means he loves the view from that branch, which is nice itself. Checking out the area, being very comfortable there. I have a pair that love to sit in my dogwood in backyard. Now they are watching the bird feeder for a fill up!

  21. Leave it to our Stewey to arrange a cuddle up to tell you that the heart knows no boundaries. He remembered the
red leaf and sent you something even more profound as his
love reminder. Good that you had the outing with Friends
and gained the support you deserve at this time.

  22. Definitely a message that Stewey is watching over you and letting you know all is ok. I lost my Father 2 years ago and a cardinal showed up outside my window a week later. I lost my fur baby back in June and a cardinal showed up. Stewey is in your heart forever my dear :)

  23. It truly pains me that I just read your back posts and learned of the passing of Stewey. His friend Bud and I will always have a place in our heart for him. Sadly Bud has been diagnosed with old dog syndrome, he is 14 yrs old and has lost most of his hearing and eyesight. To be such small creatures they take hold of your heart and become bigger than life and mean the world to you. Hugs to you Coni and yes Stewey sent you a message, You are going to be just fine.

  24. Are you sure it was a cardinal and not an ordinary brown bird wearing a red velvet smoking jacket?
A most appropriate message from Stewey.
