MRS. GIRTHY-NESS, PAGING MRS. SPINSTER GIRTHY-NESS

"I've decided that I'm going to eat with impunity for the next two weeks, and then come January 1, I'm going to start a program", she said with conviction.

Aunt Chrissy and I held the annual Rich Sisters Day of Baking and Christmas Cursing Extravaganza on Saturday, and I am happy to report that we now have the following items carefully containerized and ready.

Ready for what, I'm not really sure, but we bonded. Let's just leave it at that.

10 dozen koulorakia (those damn Greek twist cookies)
8 dozen cuccidati (Dad's favorite -- Sicilian fig cookies)
450 reindeer eyes (you know, the round pretzels with a melted Rolo and an M&M inside)
7 dozen fat girl crispie treats (also known as Ooey Gooey Karo Krispers)
3 pounds of white chocolate bark
3 pounds of dark chocolate bark
5 pounds of peanut butter fudge
9 dozen Buckeyes (peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate -- from our homeland)
6 dozen espresso snow cap cookies

....and a partridge in a pear treeeeeee!

Oh, and did I mention that I seem to have also developed an unfortunate Jelly Belly addiction as well as a ham and cheese panini made with garlic Naan bread fixation?

That last one I'm blaming on Aunt Chrissy entirely, since she's the one that bought the damn naan bread in the first place.

I just wish my mind didn't work in this twisted and evil way that makes me want to put everything on my panini press.

Even I am appalled as I read this, and I can promise you that January 2nd will find me face down in a salad.

With Russian dressing.

Oh, and some of those really crunchy and buttery Pepperidge Farm croutons.

And a pickle! We have to have a pickle!

Seriously, kids. If I so much as mention anything other than vegetables in 2012, will somebody come put me in a facility? I can only widen doorways so much around here before the structural integrity of the house is compromised, and I'm quickly running out of my quadruple X sweatpants supply.

What did you do this weekend?

  4. What did I do this weekend? I procrastinated!! I went around yelling "Bah, HUMBUG!!!!" Then I procrastinated some more. Not sure why this Christmas is a big fat zero for me. I think I will just go with the flow and not fight it. If you are Ms. Girthy-ness, I am Ms. Girthy-ness Junior! My XXX sweat pants are getting snug. I have pretty much decided to do what you are doing--eat with impunity until January 2 and then commit myself to two years (at least) of Weight Watchers. I'm right there with you Coni. Sure wish I could find my lost Christmas spirit....hmmm....maybe it's under the bed with the king-sized dust bunnies. Ohhh, I bet that's the problem! The dust bunnies ate my Christmas spirit!

  5. I sat down with all my cookie recipes and picked what I'll bake, wrote a grocery list for said cookie recipes, checked out sales for an XBox 360 (Walmart, here I come!). Wish I could join you in girthy-ness but with my gall bladder problems and upcoming surgery, I just can't eat much. But watch out afterwards!! February will be my month of catching up!

  7. Recipes, recipes...we want recipes!

And I'll be joining you in doing something about the girthy-ness, but not until Jan 10. There's a big football game on Jan 9th...at least, it's pretty big around here!

  8. I bought the toffee pudding...to make the pie you spoke of in an earlier post. Yum! Your goodies sound wonderful. We aren't doing much baking here this year. But I am looking forward to ham and cheesy potatoes this week. And I am making my husband a pineapple right-side up cake...

  9. Why oh why did you have to mention garlic naan panini? Now I want one.

I think I need to go get drool cloth - I'm salivating at the thought of all the deliciousness you and Aunt Chrissy have concocted.

    Enjoy!

  13. All of that sounds great - it is fascinating to see all the different "traditional" baking that is done. In the last couple of weeks I have baked over a hundred dozen cookies, and not one of them were on your list. Maybe we should do an exchange......

  14. Are you ready for when we all visit?
Sounds delicious anyway and it is the season for eating all things that taste good - and we all know there are no vegetables in that category.
    Enjoy the Festivities.

  15. If you use a vegetable old spray to grease cookie sheets and panini press you can count that as a veggie and you're good to go. Merry Christmas!

  17. whateva' you frickin overachiever! LOL! Just kiddding!! I asmire you so much. Me, not a cookie(home made) in sight let alone a dessert, nor decorations nor a tree. I AM BAD and I am going to go to some dark place and bite the head off the decorated Santa cookie I got at the mall this morning. I have watched 36 Christmas movies, sang along with 1,000 Christmas songs...even Grandma got ran over by a reindeer....and still no Christmas spirit. I think the hotflashes melted it away.....
so in a less then cheery tone...MERRY CHRISTMAS Spinster Stitcher.....and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  18. My cousin couldn't manage the koulourakia this year, and my mother was terribly disappointed. My mother's on her way to help you finish those.
