FREAKIN' DATE NIGHT

So last night I decided that I would sit up in the buggy and get some stitching done. Just as I was getting into the Happy Chair, Stewey bolted from his perch and slapped an "OPEN" sign on the back patio door:

"Good evening! Tonight's selections include the chef's special blend of black sunflower seeds, accompanied by a lovely little Merlot imported from the Napa Valley. Shall I get you started with an appetizer while we await the arrival of your date?"

With that, I heard a lot of bitching and moaning and complaining about the lighting in the ladies room, and THE DATE arrived on scene: "I'm starving! What did you order for an appetizer? Is that waiter a little obnoxious, or what? How's my hair?"

Then, before I knew it, the place started to fill up with other parties anxious for a good table:

"I'm sorry, sir, but we'll have to seat you in the back. We only have tables for two on the patio this evening. Shall I take your lady friend's shawl?"

The patio diner suddenly realized that he was alone. He suspects that his date has retreated to the ladies' room once again...this time to fix her lipstick.

And so it goes. The Spinster dines alone, while her backyard is turned into Chez Stewey for the evening. I swear, I wouldn't have been at all surprised if a bear would have come out of the woods and requested a nice salmon with a little rice pilaf.

Damn nature.

I did manage to finish a block on Strawberry Shortcake! Only six more to go! Woo Hoo!

  1. Oh, Coni; a new restaurant on the side? That Stewey is a busy fella. We actually have those type diners as well and they have learned how to come in the cat door into the basement to eat. Between the racoons, hawk, bunnies, chipmunks, coyotes and squirrels we feel like we are living in a Disney movie sometimes.

  2. LOL. And it's bad when the diners nibble on the tabletop flowers in between courses.

  3. Lol...raccons are cute, Coni, but keep Stewey away from them. They can be really vicious. Has Stewey had his rabies shots?

  5. We've had to being our bird feeders in at night because the opossum's and raccoon's (and occasionally the deer) empty them and tear them down from their hooks!

  6. Whoo Hoo!

My previous backyard was along a creek. I always had racoons at night. Once, after a heavy downpour, the fence started leaning and was propped up by a board. The racoons loved it and used it as a slide - even the babies. You have a diner in your backyard. I had a playground. I'll bet Stewey was going nuts!

  7. Anything to alter the everydayness.

    Strawberry shortcake is progressing nicely.

  8. How did Stewey take it? My Grace Kelly would be weeping with frustration! Racoons can be mean though, so I wouldn't let any interaction happen. Nice block finish!

  9. Love the little diatribe you have going on in this post about the 'coons! Hopefully Stewey made some good coins to help pay his share of expenses...lol! ;D

  11. Yikes! I haven't seen a racoon in a long time - I'm not sure if they live in my area or not LOL. We get coyotes! You are making great progress on Strawberries.

  12. We have a creek just running near our backyard but we certainly dont get racoons. They look too cute to be nasty. Stewey might like to see our visitors; snakes, magpies who will peck and swoop my little dogs on the rare occassion they are outside, and what would he make of a Kangaroo?

  14. Con: I believe, by their size, these critters had dined well before their visit to Chez Spinster. Perhaps, some cake, or a little pastry mon ami!!!

  15. Hi Spinney,

Hey, how is the stitching going? Because I haven't stitched in a while, been in a funk since I lost my job, but I'm following your site again and getting inspired all over again! So hop back into the Happy Chair and let's get going!!!
