I BETTER WATCH OUT....I BETTER NOT CRY....

Day eight of the Spinster Stitcher No Stitching Slump That Just Won't Quit. My insides feel rather....um....
And every time I pull out that Christmas Stitching Basket, I get bored and feel: Never fear, though...I'm getting my stitching fixes from reading your blogs and drooling over everything you're working on. My goodness, but you're productive! I will confess that I watch your progress on each and every stitch and I do little spastic cheerleader moves by way of virtual encouragement. Isn't it wonderful to know that you've got a nutcase out here in CyberStitchyVille stalking your every move?

Stewey is sporting his Christmas collar but is not happy about it. He prefers the more dainty "Burberry" style collar that is his everyday wear. (Don't tell him, but it's actually a cat collar. Damn dog is so little that the size small dog collars are too big and bulky for him.) (See above for evidence of such.)

I was supposed to wake up to a few inches of snow today, but apparently the memo was lost in translation. I love the first snowfall of the year and anticipate it with great....uh....well....anticipation, but alas, it was not to be. Oh well, I suppose there will be plenty of time before next spring for the white stuff to fly.

Well, I guess I'll go decorate the fireplace mantle before Stewey calls in the local flower shoppe. He has had the page bookmarked for quite some time, and has threatened to tart this place up to within an inch of its life if I don't get a move on, so I suspect I had better take the hint.

Happy Thursday to all! Keep those needles flying, please! A poor little wicked spinster is depending on you!

  2. Hopefully that first snowfall will invigorate you and get you back to stitching! I miss being able to watch snow fall from the sky, but not the bitter cold that goes with (being from MI and all). Be sure to share a snap or two of it when it does finally arrive!

    Stewey's collar is adorable.

  3. Maybe you ought to stitch something non Christmas-y
or is it sacrilege to say that? I am not a seasonal stitcher, I am rather slow so it would take a lot of seasons to complete things. I know for a fact that Santa stitched in July is still Santa. Maybe you just need to find your Christmas mojo....but should stitch something else in the meanwhile.

  5. Hope you're back to stitching soon. The urge will hit you when you're ready. I'd just ignore that basket until you feel like stitching.

  7. I'm SURE you have one of Miss Laura's pieces to whet your whistle.
If not, just take a break. We all need one of those now and again.

  8. I'm in a stitchy slump also. What's it mean??? I've been thinking like Alice suggested and start on something non-Christmas. I've been waiting for an order from Silkweavers for over 2 weeks and I'm hoping that will get me in the mood again...IF it ever gets here :)

  9. I hope that you get yourself straightened out. But if it helps, I've been the same way - got the tree up and lights on, but not decorated. Can't land myself in the stitching chair and decide what to do. I stare at the TV with boredome. It stinks.

  10. Dear nutcase, the stitching bug will come back. It always does. For me it always comes in the form of 3-4 new projects that I shouldn't have started because I already have enough UFOs to keep a small developing nation busy for a couple months.

  11. Hope to hear you are up and stitchin soon. It always helps me to put in a christmas DVD and pick up a christmas stitching project. If you are interested. Christmas Vacation is on AMC for 5 nights twice in a row. every night... Happy Decorating !!!

  12. I'll be cruel and laugh at your 8-day slump. I had one that lasted 5 years (through HS). No worries, one day you'll see something, have to stitch it, and voila! your mojo's back.
Just relax and don't stress. Decorate your tree. Eat some cookies (that always helps.
And if I could I'd ship you the snow that falling outside right now~~~

  14. Coni,

I found your blog recently and loved it! Then I had to go back to the beginning and read every word that you'd written (and all the comments! - Can you say 'OCD'?) I have laughed until my ribs hurt! Thank you for the joy you've given me!

Then I went through your blog from the beginning again and made a list of all the projects you had done that I just had to do for myself. Many of these I had seen in the LNS, but your pictures of them were much more enticing than their official cover photo. While I thank you for the vastly expanded wishlist, my hubby is not as appreciative (he's anticipating the pain in his wallet!).

I'm eagerly awaiting the return of your stitching mojo. Meanwhile, have a cup of tea, a couple Christmas cookies, and spend some time playing in your stash!

  15. Being in a slump is the dumps - I feel for you. Maybe trying something crafty that's not stitching would help - I suggest something like origami (fill your tree with little paper cranes! What is that thing about 1000 cranes?).

Stewey - I lu-u-uv your collar - wish I could get my girls to wear one - but Annie and Nellie won't even keep a regular collar on, and we won't discuss what they did to their Christmas kerchiefs last year!

  16. Coni, what is this business about a stitching slump? It must be going around because I have had it lately also. I tried this entire week to work on the next part of a project from my German group (I don't speak German, but stitching has no language - ha!), and spent more time ripping it out. Then I finally finished this very small part and went to send the group a picture so I could get the next part, and the scanner won't work!

Sometimes it is better to just sit back, find something else to do, and wait it all out.

  17. You always crack me up. I hear you on the slump. I have been going from project to project, unable to really settle on anything. I HATE it when that happens! Meanwhile, my family is taking great enjoyment out of doing imitations of me lying on the sofa, looking like a beached whale, moaning about having nothing to stitch. Blergh. I hope you are able to snap out of it soon! (Me, too!)

  18. Hi Coni,

I agree with Alice that maybe you should find something else to stitch. The older I get, the more apt I am to do what I feel like doing and to heck with the rest.
