IN WHICH WE MOVE MY IU CLINIC CHEESE ALL OVER THE PLACE

I'm supposed to be in the car on my way to Indianapolis today for transplant clinic tomorrow, but alas, I am not. The weather is dangerously cold for a road trip, and the covid numbers here in Indiana still have me very skittish to leave CS2.

So I called and asked if I could postpone to next week, and they said "Come on down!" on Thursday for a Friday clinic.

Then, they called back and said Dr Yaqub might be able to fit me in for a virtual visit, but if not, please keep the Friday next week appointment.

Then, Dr Yaqub called and we had a virtual visit and gabbed like a couple of old ladies across the back fence hanging laundry on laundry day.

A few medication changes, the suggestion to go buy a hat for my rapidly balding head, and the happy news that I can get my flu shot and fourth covid booster tomorrow, the shingles vaccine next month, and I can reduce getting labwork to once every two weeks now.

Whew! I need to go process all of this now and play with my book, Dearies. But all good news and we're off on more adventures!

  1. Coni,

I’m glad you are feeling good. The hair situation is a result of the steroids. You should get a wig. My mom had the same issue and had very good luck with the Raquel Welch wigs. There probably is a store that caters to women with cancer that sells and styles wigs somewhere near you. My mom loves hers so much that she’s still wearing hers even though her hair has grown back! Hugs!

  4. Last spring, after I'd spent a month in the hospital and had those surgeries, I was losing an incredible amount of hair. On the advice of the lady who cuts my hair, I began taking 5000 mg of Biotin (Vitamin B7) - just got some at the local WalGreens. Took a couple of weeks to kick in, but the hair loss has completely stopped. She told me that it was quite common for people who've been anesthetized to lose hair for up to a year. And mine was coming out - well, I was spending as much time in the shower dealing with the literal handfuls of hair that were coming out as anything else. It was ridiculous.

  5. I tried the online game Wordle today. Big floofy failure. But, I think you might have a knack for it... 🤔

  6. Your Virtual Visit sounds like an absolute pleasure - and a whole lot better than skidding over icy roads and back again! As for the hair loss ... I've got that too, and for no reason other than the follicles just got bored and took a holiday. I knew someone once with very fine, thin hair which she grew to waist-length and wore in a bun, with a ribbon wrapped round it that exactly matched whatever else she was wearing. Impressive! But she was concerned about her future, and started collecting stray hairs from her brush, pillowcase etc and storing them for use in a future wig, until she noticed that the fur on the tail of one of her dogs was the exact same colour, length and texture as (some of)her own hair, so she threw everything out because she couldn't tell the difference!

  10. Good luck on the hair loss. I took Biotin to help my pathetic nails. It didn't help
them, but it did a terrific job growing lots of facial hair! I stopped taking it. Apparently the Biotin I took from Costco wasn't specific about where it grew the hair. I just have to laugh. My tweezers and I have had a very generous relationship but Biotin and I have parted ways. My face feels and looks much better without the Biotin. I just had to warn you! I wish you luck with your hair. I'm ever so glad and joyful about your new life!

  12. Good news! Can't wait to see what hat you choose - a big floppy brim, straw boater, stetson or Notre Dame baseball cap!
