FRIDAY...

Post d-chair recovery mode with an ice pack for Buzzy and a lemon water for me:

The Phillies doing their thing against Tampa Bay:

And JB Magoo in post stromboli mode watching the game:

Bit of a rough go of it toward the end, but I gutted it out and managed to get almost to dry weight. I came off treatment at 114kg, which means I am only about five pounds away from IU transplant weight goal! I have until Oct 27th to get there, so I'm soldiering on!

I got a glimpse of the machine that would be used here at CS2 for home dialysis. It's large, Marge, and is going to require a bit of creative furniture moving to fit, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. First we need to see if I have the ability to insert my own needles...yikes!

Happy weekend, Dearies! I'm going to sign off and unplug and try to enjoy it device free! I hope you have a fun and splendid time of it and that you'll come tell me all about it! See you Monday!

  1. Happy Friday and a blessed weekend. We are going to have cooler weather here in South Texas, which for us is low 90s. LOL. The high for Monday is 77°. Woo Hoo!

  3. P.S. You are braver than me. I already know I couldn't poke needles into myself (says the lady who is more than capable of using an xacto knife (sterilized with alcohol) to cut myself open to remove splinters, cysts, an other things).

  4. Well you have a name for your machine already - Large Marge LOL! Then you will be Nurse Coni! As for the weight - brilliant - you have a month to get over that hurdle and it is doable. You know you can do it and so do we! Pompoms ladies, let's wave them around!

  5. It would be cool to not have to schlep out for treatments, especially in winter. But (you knew that was coming!) so many questions that I suspect many of us have... do they send someone to keep an eye on you as treatments end when you seem to have crashes due to blood pressure, or will JB need the ambulance on speed dial? can you do treatments more frequently and maybe avoid those crashes? will JB get any training on what to do if his assistance is needed? If so, what about when he's at his mom's? how's the prep and cleanup on the machine? I'm sure I have other questions, but pre-caffeine, they just aren't coming to me yet. Putting needles in yourself is the least worry on the process to me, I'm sure you can conquer that. I'm not being nosy, your crashes during treatments at the center do have me very concerned about what if they happen at home.

Anyway - great news on the weight, I have every confidence you can get there!

  7. Congratulations on the weight loss. I hope the at home D works out and those issues are surmountable. Such a challenge indeed. I have followed the transplant journey with parents of two of my students. Pretty incredible and complicated, but inspiring. Have a restful recharging weekend. Enjoy the game watching, cooking and companionship.

  8. Exciting news about Large Marge! I recently read an account written by a woman with kidney failure detailing how home dialysis improved her life. If it works even half as well for you, you'll be living a dream!

I hope you had a wonderful device-free weekend! I will eagerly check for an update Monday!

  12. Yikes indeed! I have to say that never again should you doubt your bravery, Coni. To even contemplate the act of inserting a needle in your arm on a weekly basis (especially the size of a dialysis needle!) requires tremendous strength of will and courage. Many blessings! Keep up the good fight!
