IN WHICH IT'S 8:00 ON A SATURDAY MORNING AND WE'VE ALREADY HAD A MELTDOWN

You may find this hard to believe, but I did not sleep a wink at all last night, stressing over the events of the day to come. My biggest worries were 1) walking from the parking area to our seats in the stadium a billion and a half miles away, and 2) finding something suitable to wear.

(I am, after all, a portly spinster of a certain age and rotundity that requires a precise level of "covering that mess up", thus an immediate veto of the tube top and Daisy Duke option.)

So I trecked to the bookstore to obtain a Game Day shirt.  I figured it was about time that I have a piece of Notre Dame apparel that didn't come from the back of my closet and was originally purchased in 1982.

I grabbed a ladies' 2X...the biggest they had...and got the heck out of there.

Now, it's no secret that I am a big girl. As a matter of fact, despite my recent weight loss attempts,
I remain seriously overweight, but I've made progress and continue to do so. And, throughout this journey, I have experienced the realization that my clothing options are more in the 1X-2X range now rather than the 5X-6X range that they were when I started.  As a matter of fact, most things that I think are going to be entirely too small are now within my realm of possibility now.

But this 2X?

This 2X wouldn't fit Stewey with two hands, a tub of butter, and several sharp tugs.

My self esteem is in the gutter now, and I have to go get dressed.

Spinster Stitcher t-shirt and Mom capris it is!

Pray for me, Dearies. This is going to be a very long day...

  1. Not all 2X are created equal!!! Try to focus on the game and not all of the obnoxious people around you. Enjoy a day with your Jersey Boy!!! Luv You and your adventures.

  2. Obviously it was labeled wrong! Hope you have a good day anyway! xo

  3. I'm not surprised by the sizing! All the branded tees seem really small. I hope the rest of the day is really enjoyable and includes a win :-)

  4. It's a conspiracy! LOL

Remember that you have made many of us happy with the accurately sized Spinster t's.

  5. Sorry about your experience with the t-shirt. I share your pain. With so many customers looking for larger sizes, I don't understand why retailers don't cater better for us.

  6. I am not a petite gal, either, and I have sadly learned that so-called ‘women’s tees’ are usually cut very small. I saw a cute Gator tee, grabbed a XL, then hurriedly shoved it back on the rack. It might have fitted someone weighing maybe 125 pounds with a B bra! Certainly not me, haha! I always get the men’s or unisex style, just a regular cut tee, and they fit much better. Hope you can enjoy your game today! Have you considered a rollator/walker for long treks when you are feeling bad? I have to use a cane all the time, but I poop out in long distances and am thinking about adding one to my repertoire. It stinks, but beats sitting around, I guess! —Best wishes, Mary

  7. Enjoy the game and think of the walk to the stadium as an adventure in people watching! Thinking of you!

  8. Could they drop you at the entrance to the stadium and then park, so that you don't have to walk quite so far?

  9. You've got this! (Or not! If not, 5 min from now is a new 5 min and you can have it then!) Don't worry about that shirt. Never let off-the-rack, made-for-somebody-else clothes judge you. It is absolutely like Ina says about "making new recipes for company/functions"—Never do it! When I somehow do that, if it does not "measure up to my standards of perfection", I remember, "Oh, of course not! This is a thing which is not supposed to work. No worries then if it's not! We are running according to reasonable parameters."

You can decide not to judge yourself based on clothes not even made for you! If they were tailor-made to-measure, then you can expect them to fit you, but otherwise? Nah! You're still you, and that'/ good! Put on "Good Morning" by Max Frost from wherever you get your on-demand Music, and Lean In on having a good time today! ❤️✨

  10. Half the time, I don't even bother to look in the women's racks. I have broad shoulders, and men's fit me better. Their t-shirts didn't go through the wear-it-skin-tight downsizing that women's clothing went through several years ago. Men's shirts are often a few bucks cheaper, too. What's up with that? Someone else's number on a shirt does not define you, Coni. Your heart and sense of humor in the face of daily life is who I think of! I will wave when I watch the game on teevee this afternoon. Hope to see you waving back :).

  11. https://www.fullbeauty.com/

I shop there exclusively now. Everything seems to fit true-to-size. I have a new wardrobe that FITS and is stylish. I am a comfort-driven VOLUPTUOS stitcher myself. HOWEVER, check the size charts. What JC Penney calls a 3X is a 2X at FB as these clothes are MADE for us Rubenesque lovelies. They also off steep dicounts and decent s/h charges.

  12. Shirts, schmertz. Guy shirts better bet as mentioned. Why?
Because we gals keep hunting and buying from those who don't see us and don't care. Hit them in the pocketbook...Pick up
your head and look proudly about you...you sure are somebody,
ask the chauffeur to drop you at the entrance and enjoy every
moment of the game, soon to be little Ms. 1X.....after you
work off the ballpark hot dog....

  13. Trust me, it's the clothes not you!! I'm on the smaller size but rather well endowed, and I find that I wear anything from a S to an XL depending on the brand. And yes, I have XLs that a toothpick would have trouble fitting in!! So do what others have suggested and shop in the mens section and have fun today!! And be proud of what you have accomplished!!!

  14. Sorry about the t-shirt. Don't take it personally! Depending on the brand, some t-shirts are cut very small and women's t-shirts, in particularly, are often very form-fitting. Even mens' t-shirts are often cut very small and you have to go up a size or even two sizes.

  15. I have that problem all the time. It's not you but the nit wits that made those shirts. Buy a man's shirt and be comfy.

  16. I totally dislike the inconsistency in sizing clothes. Grrrrrrrrr

  17. I sounded like a commercial in my post earlier. Sorry about that. But as a size 3X top and 2X bottom -- I'm always eager to share a clothing store that doesn't put me in clothes that make me look twice as big.

  18. Enjoy the game and the heck with the size! Be proud at whatever size you are at! You have given me so much happiness, laughter and tears, I can never thank you often enough! God bless you Connie!!!

  19. I wish all the clothing people would get together and decide on how big each size is going to be and all get on the same page. Sheesh! Anywho I agree with Edie above. To heck with the size!!
