IN WHICH I REQUIRE EXPERTISE

OK, Dearies. I need to pick your beautiful brains.

I am going to my very first EGA Seminar this weekend, and although it will be a simple retreat format (and not full of classes), I am struggling with what necessities to pack.

I know that I will take several projects of all types and sizes, but I am obsessing over my....GEAR.

So.

When you travel, what do you have in your bag? And, more importantly, what kind of bag do you use and where did you get it?

I think I've ordered four of the faux leather jewelry cases from the amazons, and God knows I have more totes and wheelie bags and cases and baskets to fill a mini van, but I can't seem to get it just right.

  1. Woo hoo!! That is very exciting. I try not to go crazy with bringing stuff. Scissors, laying tool, light, reading glasses if needed, needle minder, extra needles, small ruler, needle threader, pen/pencil, clamps or weight if you don’t have a frame, nail file to prevent snags, tweezers. (I’m going through my stuff since I have a trip coming up too!). Have fun!!

  3. I'd bring most of the things you bring to a guild meeting. Whatever projects you bring, have ehat you know you'd use at home. Be yourself and have a great time. Debby in CO

  4. Projects (I always pack too much), basic tools (scissors, packages of needles, q-snap or whatever type frame/hoop, tweezers), light. Don't take your valuable or most expensive scissors. I pack it all in a Vera Bradley Miller bag. Don't stress over your storage/tote/cases, Coni! Have an enjoyable time.

  5. Just your usual stitching stuff but just realize once you get there you will find out what you need because others have one. You will be ordering from Amazon right then and there and we laugh and say Amazon is wondering what all the push is all of a sudden for that nifty little metal stand or perfect pencil case.

  6. In addition to what others have mentioned, take extra pairs of stitching glasses. I also take a small folding footstool because most chairs are too tall for my short legs!

  8. They don't allow corded lights at EGA so be sure to be prepared for that if you need a light to stitch. I always take too much. I'm determined to have a much lighter bag for my EGA retreat in February.

  9. A project, a second project, & toiletries as I think of them. Just toss them in a bag.
As long as you have your daily meds, & a couple of projects, everything else is gravy!

  10. I've never been to a retreat of any sort so I'm of no help. Other than to say don't take your mostest favoritest tools so they don't disappear in your room or get mixed into other people's stuff.

Great tip about cords not being allowed! I'd never have thought to ask about that.

  11. I put each kit with fabric, hoop or frame, threads, highlighter and pattern, scissors and needle in its own bag or project box. I expect you have plenty of containers from what you wrote. Stash them in a crate like you do in the cube room, or a basket, or a large bag. I take one kit with spare scissors, threaders, extra needles, neck lamp and small clamp on light, a few batteries for lights, band aids, nail file, tweezers, small notebook and a pencil, small hand cream.

Clothes n toiletries, a book, meds in my suitcase.
