HAPPY KIDNEYVERSARY!

On September 30, 2021, at IU Health in Indianapolis, Indiana, Hoosierville, USA, The Spinster Stitcher began her new life thanks to her Angel, a dream team of medical professionals, a caregiving squad of the other half of her heart, and the love and support of her beloved Dearies from both near and far.

It has been a month of profound blessings, challenges, and life lessons, and although she has not always acquitted herself with grace, love, humility, and deep deep gratitude, in her quietest moments, she has been brought to her knees with the sheer miracle of it all.

One month.

The prayer continues to be the same, but with a little more urgency as the fog of surgery starts to lift and the business of recovery continues: Please help me to be worthy of this gift and to live a life that honors all those who got me here.

Happy Kidneyversary!

  5. Dear Coni-
    You. Are. Worthy.
You share your thought, feelings, worries, dreams, frustrations…in other words, LIFE…with us. And through that, you remind us that we are not alone, there are others out in this wide world who struggle, celebrate, mourn, laugh…in other words, LIVE… alongside us.
You remind us of the adventure that is life.
    You are a blessing.
    You. Are. Worthy.

  7. I cannot think of anyone that is more deserving of a kidney than you. You are the cheerleader for all that are awaiting one (and other organs!). You have not sugar-coated the truth about dialysis and hopefully your honesty will be able to inspire others to donate. (I am a potential donor. Hopefully, something will be worth recycling when the time comes.)

    Happy anniversary!

  9. Your words of gratitude are a good lesson for all of us. We all receive blessings big and small and as special as your blessings are and we can refer to your kind words as a daily thought or prayer. Thanks for writing this and congrats on the anniversary.

  12. Think of how you felt 21 days ago and compare to today. Amazing, right?
And worthy? You are worthy at all times. Your blog has lifted me up so many times and I know I am not the only one.
And you are going to keep getting better and better and giving back as you have been doing all along.
You are the best! Happy Kidneyversary!

  17. Wow a month. In the blink of an eye, it will be a year, and then 10 years and on and on. Thank God for unselfish organ donors that because of them, people like you get a new lease on life. And yes, you are deserving of it. No question.

  21. The biggest change you face is the one to your identity. You no longer are tied to a dialysis chair 3 times a week. What to do with all that extra time? You've spent so long being a dialysis patient, who are you now? What does that look like? Just know that we are all here cheering you on as you find these answers.

  22. Yahoo!! I have no doubt you will make the most of this chance and live in a way that honours all those who had a part in it. Today I am grateful to you Coni, as I work to still my thoughts while working on my stitching. The FIFTH one I have done since I "met" you and was inspired to pick up an old hobby! Thank you.
