I can blow dry said hair and get dressed, as long as I use my right arm and wear slip on shoes.
I can stop for gas and get a little car wash, but I have to close my eyes and think happy thoughts in the car wash or I will have a full-on Tony Soprano panic attack.
I can drive to the grocery, get a little cart, and pick up a few items, but I have to remember that it is not a race and the grocery is the approximate size of Delaware.
I can load said groceries into the car, drive them home, unload them, and put them away.
I can make hot dogs and tater tots for dinner and enjoy them like any self-respecting twelve year old can.
I can light the fire, change back into jams, hit the Happy Chair, and watch bad TeeVee while drooling into the magic blanket.
And, most importantly, I learned....
I CANNOT DO ALL OF THESE THINGS ON THE SAME DAY!
Too, too much. Once again, I overdid it and must now pay the consequesces. Silly, silly spinster. You just haven't learned how to pace yourself.
I'm in the Happy Chair with my coffee and newspaper and methinks I will stay here for the duration!
Hope your Thursday is...educational.
Too funny. I never seem to learn the "do not cram everything into half a day" lesson. I am taking your experience to heart!
ReplyDeleteWe ALL have to learn, don't we. Myself included. Hope the rest of your day is peaceful and pleasant. Hugs & Prayers, Cathryn
ReplyDeleteDear, dear Spinster! That is the lesson I have been trying to learn this myself this last year as a 62 year old grandmom! Quit nursing to help my daughter & son in law (both police officers with shift work) to care for my grandbabies. Now there are 3! For that I am grateful, however the 10 & 8 yr old aren't so bad, but running after the 18 month old is killing me!!!! I repeat to myself EVERY day...pace yourself, pace yourself, pace yourself! Good luck with it....I'm still trying after a year. Feel better and give yourself time to heal, surg takes alot out of you!
ReplyDeleteI would like to give a BIG THUMB'S UP for the hot dogs and tater tots reference. I like to put them all on the same baking sheet in the oven and roast 'em up together.
ReplyDeleteLet's all have hot dogs and tater tots for dinner tomorrow night. This could be a real mulit-location event. Like Hands Across the World. Tots Across the Internet. Yes.
DeleteCount me in! And don't forget the Totino's pizza rolls!
DeleteAhhh... the Happy Chair. I wish I were in mine right now...A very good place to be, especially with a working fireplace nearby.
ReplyDeleteConi, there are days when I am still working on that lesson. Hmmm, I know there are tots in the freezer, but not sure about the hot dogs. Thanks to you, I want both! Have a peaceful rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteI love your daily updates! It all gets easier with time. I had to learn to pace myself and it becomes normal and not so upsetting. Took me a few (2) years to learn but life is Good now.I'm sure you will break records getting there I was a slow learner ha ha. All the best wishes for you.
ReplyDeleteConnie, are you aware that lots of grocery stores will shop for you and deliver your groceries these days? I order what I want using the HyVee Aisles Online website (because I have a HyVee just down the street). If you order over $100 it's free delivery, less than $100 and it's $4.50 for delivery. I'm disabled and grocery shopping kills me, so it's really nice to have them delivered to my front door. They'll carry them in for you too if you like, and say no tipping is required (I can't afford to tip). This service has been a life saver for me. So Check your local grocery stores for online delivery!
ReplyDeleteThose hot dogs and taters sound delicious...and the happy chair and firelight while downing coffee and news of the day sound welcome... you have that pacing part down pat...
ReplyDeleteKnowing you, the rest you will eventually fine tune to an art. Just heal, rest and practice pacing. You are sounding great today.
Glad you got out, but hope you stay in your Happy Chair tonite and Relax!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get settled into mine pretty soon. Sending you soothing thoughts tonite.

Yep, learning how not to overdo it is a problem I think a lot of us have. But... when it comes to our health, we must learn to pace ourselves. Take it easy and try to relax and not do too much. Easier said than done, I know.
ReplyDeleteWe got a foot of snow here today, so I'm in my cocoon also. Remember to relax! Thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteI hope you bought enough so you don't have to venture out again any time soon!
ReplyDeleteThose magic blankets will get you, enjoy it!
I hope you are enjoying a much quieter day today!
ReplyDeleteLearning to slow down is hard to do. Especially when you feel good and have that "burst" of energy. Hope you feel better soon.
