DAMN, DRAT, AND PHOOEY

Evidence of why I should not be allowed to watch the news when I stitch:
I put Vaceila's entire face on...one over one (my very first attempt at that, by the way), and when completed, decided that the color is....

Ugh.

Complete and total ugh.

Too red, too pink, to orangey brown.,.ugh.

So today I will take a deep breath, reboot, head up to the studio, and see if I can't find something that is better.

But the frogging of that entire section?

Ugh.

  1. That was last night's decision, I'm thinking. Are you sure, now in the light of day, that you must redo her face? What I see in the photo looks lovely to me!

  2. If you hate the color, how about doing a tent stitch in the new color with one ply of a floss? That might be easier than ripping out....

  3. Well your stitching looks beautiful! And congrats on the one-over-one thing - it's very difficult, I think. But if you can't live with the color, considering how labor intensive the stitching is, then you should change it. It's a beautiful piece.

  4. I think the color of her face looks fine! Don't bother frogging.

  5. I think it looks great, but like Chilly Hollow's suggestion if you must change it. I've done that before to correct a stitch here and there and you can't tell once it's done.

  6. If I have issues with a stitching piece, I set it up somewhere I will pass by it several times a day - looking at it from different light sources. And, from the distance it will be observed from once it is finished. A day or two helps me to decide if I really do need to redo an area. You piece looks beautiful from here - I like the shading on the neck and face too.

  7. I think the color looks nice with the shades in her cape, right next to her face. I find that frogging an over one section leaves a fuzzy texture to the linen and can warp it, so I avoid it at all costs! But I'm not a good frogger, I tend to get impatient and pull a little too hard! She is lovely.

  8. I think she is lovely as is....maybe you should live with it for a day or so before changing it.

  9. I agree wth the others. I like it.....maybe live with it a few days to see if you still feel the same way. Beautiful over one stitching!

  10. I think her coloring is fine. But I would wait a few days before making a final decision because ripping out over one is a big pain. Coni, I hope you have a relaxing weekend.

  11. Based on the photo, she looks great. Wait a few days to make a decision to pick out one over one. Been there and done it, and it was not pretty.

  12. I love the way her face blends with the shoulder beige part.

  13. It's not bad at all, you're being hypercritical of yourself. I've completed lots and lots of over-one pieces and all I can tell you is step back and relax. I can't remember what the finished chart looks like but the colors used in the face will look different when you finish all the other stitching. It takes on the colors of the surrounding stitches. My first piece had this really dark shade on the cheek and chin area and I thought it just looked horrible; like a floosie with way too much makeup, but after I finished all the other stitching it's lovely. So, relax and give yourself a few days and I bet you'll change your mind. Lovely stitching by the way.

  17. That tone may be what is needed from a moderate distance.
Were you to make it much lighter, it might not be as distinctive... She looks "healthy" to me...

  18. Oh no! Over 1 frogging is the worse! I personally think she looks absolutely beautiful.

  19. I also like it as it is. Live with it a few days and see what happens. Your stitching is amazing, I am enjoying watching it grow.

  20. For me, ripping out over 1 is something that really doesn't want to happen. Yes, sometimes, it must. But, not here. Se looks lovely.

  21. Congrats on stitching over 1. I'm sorry your unhappy with the color. I know photos and real life the colors are different, but the photo looks great.
