GRRRR.....

I'm mean as a snake and twice as ugly today. I know that it is directly related to our weather, which has given me a new appreciation for the fact that I simply do not "do" outdoors. The temperature is approximately the same as that of the west side of the sun and the humidity is enough to make a girl want to take her top off in public. Ugh.

To make matters worse, I awoke to the sounds of the car being pulled out of the driveway, and before I knew it I was watching Stewey and Flat Grandma burn rubber down the street while simultaneously flipping me off. How the two of them managed to get their hands out of the sun roof while steering said vehicle is completely beyond me, but my brain is too foggy to even care at this point.

I did manage to put a few stitches into Stars last night before falling face first into the New Jersey Housewives and Nurse Jackie. I can't decide if all of this ennui is the result of the heat or the TeeVee selections, but I can tell you that my stitchy speed has definitely crawled to a...well...a crawl.

Aunt Chrissy and I have a date tonight! We're going out to dinner with her neighbor, Mr. Joe. It has been a little over two months since Miss Linda's passing, and he seems to be doing OK, but Aunt Chrissy likes to fuss over him like a little hen. He is such a nice man and is little Bosco's very best buddy, so this will be a treat. I just hope he isn't one for wanting to dine outside.

So phooey on me today. I'm headed back to the Happy Chair with some ice and a big fat novel. I'm about 3/4 of the way through Pillars of the Earth, so I suppose that today would be a good day to see if they ever get this freakin cathedral built.

If Stewey and Flat Grandma ever return, I'll be sure to update you with tales of their travels. If you don't hear from me, please be on the lookout for a nine pound Jack Russell terrier wearing a silk smoking jacket and a tiny little doll wearing a granny cap at a bar near you. Knowing Stewey, they are probably knee deep in tapas and an impertinent little chardonnay by now, so this should be interesting.

  1. Hi Coni,
Sweet Lord, I wish I could have seen the two little miscreants zipping down the avenue, smoking jacket waving in the breeze. If they don't return in a timely fashion, perhaps you should notify the authorities and have them put out an APB. Be prepared for heavy fines and a possible incarceration, as they do take a dim view of driving while under the influence. Hope Stewey has been stashing his allowance in the event he gets out of control.
Sorry you're suffering from a case of the drooping sweats. I, myself, being part lizard, LOVE the heat. It's the humidity I can totally do without.
I must excuse myself now, as I need to go change my undies. I think I may have soiled myself while reading your post! Too flipping funny!!

  2. LOL Coni!! I can just see Stewey and F.G out on the town! I have read Pillars and just got the mini series to watch while stitching. I hope it`s good!I feel your pain with the heat, we have record breaking highs here in Colorado Springs, but no humidity, thank god!!!

  3. The H&H are creeping into the east too. TG for AC!

Pillars of the Earth is terrific as is its sequel, World Without End. Ken Follett has begun a Triology about the 20th century too with Fall of Giants (that is, of course, if you find you really enjoy his story-telling.)

The only problem with reading (my second love) is that it is hard to stitch and read at the same time -- something has to give!

Hope the miscreants don't get into too much trouble joy-riding. And enjoy your with Aunt Chrissie and Mr Joe.

  5. I could spoil Pillars for you, but you'll just have to read it and see. Loved the book. It flew by. I wish my stitching were doing the same. I hope Stewey and Flat Grandma aren't in too much pain on the morrow.

  7. I totally agree with your assessment of the weather and the awful teevee selection. I can't wait for all the summer series to start so I have a reason to sit and stitch.

Congratulations on your blogaversary (SP??) Every post makes me smile. Take Stewey's advice and enjoy an ice cold impertinent chardoney!

  9. Coni, I tell you I just saw them teetering out of the Dew Drop Inn on 3rd Street! I called the cops and they were going to set up a sobriety check point. I hope they make it back soon, otherwise you may need to call John Walsh so the story can make it to the air waves on this Saturday's edition of America's Most Wanted. Good Luck and keep us abreast!

  10. Pillar of the Earth - SO GOOD and addictive! I have about 100 pages left to read (makes me glad I got my Nook Color in May - don't have to hold up that big book while reading in bed). Anyway - I agree - being torn between stitching and reading is tough - and I don't love listening to audio books.

Hope your little buddies come home soon!

  11. Know what happened to the mean and stubborn snake that was tormenting me, hanging around our house? He's DEAD. So please, fix the attitude so you don't end up like our critter.

Whatever are you going to do with Stewey? What a rascal.

  12. Heat and humidity equals misery! (unless one is under a beach umbrella with a steady supply of cool cloths and even cooler beverages being brought by cool fellas)
Something about warm weather discourages stitching I have found... but Pillars is an excellent read so I know you are in good hands and must look at Stewey and FG's defection as a blessing in disguise.

  13. Let's just hope that smoking jacket stays ON....I'm just sayin'.....

Did you watch the Pillars of the Earth mini series on TEEVee? It was good. I won't give away the ending....

  15. Are you reading it or watching it? Because there was a mini-series out just last year, which, while not entirely faithful to the book, was still quite good...
