I WANT MY MOMMIE

Oey, with the...wait a minute...I said that already.

Today I am going to go to the beauty parlor to get my hair washed.  I am able to shower OK, but getting that arm up to shampoo is just impossible.  So I figured I would channel my inner 1950's housewife and go get my hair done, maybe have a light lunch, and then do a little grocery shopping...all while wearing pumps and pearls.

Oh, who am I kidding?

I will be lucky to find a pair if sweatpants that don't have too many holes in them for polite society and a pair of shoes that I can just slip on instead of tie.  No lunch...I'm just not hungry for anything, and methinks the grocery shopping can wait until next week. (I don't really need anything and the prospect of fainting in the canned pea aisle isn't exactly blowing up my skirt at the moment.)

So it will be sweats, hair, and home and we'll save the Girl About Town episode for another day.

Still no stitching, and I have spent most of my time sleeping and snoring away under the magic blanket.  I'm just not quite...me...yet, so I suppose I should just be a patient patient and stop kvetching about it.  Surgery is hard enough if you're young and healthy...throw age and kidney disease in there and it's no wonder I'm still on the mat!

But...oey.

Here's hoping your weekend is off to a fabulous start!  Do something fun and come tell us all about it!

  1. It sounds like a good plan. Your body is telling you it needs to rest to heal. Have a peaceful and relaxing weekend. Thinking of you!

  2. You're right about age & chronic illness making recoveries harder! Be gentle with yourself and take your time. Life isn't a Nike commercial... no need to "just do it"!

  3. Under those circumstances, you are an amazing woman to get
through the sweats, hair and home and will probably come out looking elegantly coiffed as usual.... have an easeful
day, then back to the magic blanket to heal....

  4. Hope you're back to normal soon! My 96 year old father has been going to dialysis 3x a week for the past 3 years and he has the access port in his upper left arm. I know he can't bend his arm while he is having the treatment :(

  6. Rest, rest, and more rest...that's what's needed right now. A hair wash and dry will feel really good, but the other stuff can wait...of course that's what you said but I had to repeat it like a Mommie :)
    Hugs kid

  7. Rest and hydrate! I'm confused though (Not that this is ANY of my business of course)> Was the general anesthesia to put a port in your arm? When do you start Dialysis!? Stay warm and enjoy your sweats and Sports Sunday! XO Hugs Ruth in Oxnard CA.

  12. My heart goes out to you - I truly hope you feel better real soon!! Nothing much exciting going on here. I am going to go to a guild class on embroidery/needle painting tomorrow. I am pretty familiar with embroidery stitches but I will first learn how to lace my piece onto a wooden stretcher bar frame. Since I have not done that, I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn it. Wish me luck!

  14. Ah, Coni! I wish I lived nearby. I would come wash your hair for you and even blow dry it! I just had surgery on my right hand for three trigger fingers (yes, I am rt handed) due to all my doing...cross stitch, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Ugh! So my "do" is also in need of help but at least it's short & I can wash it with my left hand and let it air dry. Have fun at the hairdresser and rest, rest, rest!! Feel better soon!

  15. Your body obviously needs the rest. I was going to recommend dry shampoo. It is wonderful to have on hand for in between wash days, but since you can't raise your arm that would be a bit difficult. Hope you feel better soon.

  17. Oey is right. I'm glad you share it helps you and us. Patients is not easy but worth it in the long run. It's just hard when you are at the beginning or middle. I'm anxious for you to feel like stitching. It does sooth the soul.
