HOME

I am home, but quiet. This one hit harder. And knocked me down further. Medically I am considered stable, but mentally and emotionally I'm flat on my back and will be so for a bit. At the moment, I don't have the spark...the humor...or the strength that is my usual fall-back position. There is no clown car this time, nor funny names, nor minimizing.  At the moment, it's just...rough.

There were and are continued miracles, of which my world remains full of every second of every day.

Those aren't going anywhere.

Thank you, Friends. For the love, the prayers, and the good wishes.

I love you.

  2. Coni, thank you for trusting us with where you are. I’m so sorry this has been so hard. You don’t need to be strong, funny, or anything at all right now. I’m here with you in the rough, for as long as it takes. You are deeply loved.
Take one day, one moment at time. That’s all you need to do!

  3. Coni, you have amazing strength to have been able to post even as much as you have. Very, very best wishes for improving health (physical, emotional, mental) as you adjust to this major change. Elaine in Oz

  4. Coni, over the years I have watched you demonstrate incredible strength and courage repeatedly. You often made light of the situation, but your strength and courage were enabling the humor. I have no doubt you are again facing life with strength and courage. You see your weaknesses and frailty, but I see someone adapting rapidly to unexpected change while recovering from major surgery. Please give yourself time to heal, and know that however much love you give yourself, it is only a fraction of the love your readers hold for you.

  5. Acknowledge the grief you feel, Coni. That is the best course for you at this point in time. Then after the grieving begins to be replaced by the smallest spark of determination, you will find your way forward. I’ve been there following a serious, life-changing surgery. ❤️

  12. Hopefully being home will get you feeling better. If watching real housewives of somewhere is the only thing you feel like doing, so be it. Rest, relax, pray and enjoy what you can.
    Prayers for you and JB.

  14. Get all the sleep you can: it's your body's way of switching you off so that it can get on with its work of repairing all the physical and psychological things that need help. And, when you're awake, slow and deep breathing really does help, and it's free! And available everywhere. All over the world, and therefore in all 24 hours of every day, people are sending you strength: you are not alone.

  19. No wonder you're feeling not your usual self mentally & emotionally. This was quite unexpected with no chance to prepare for it. As to physically - good that you're home. I love & respect the medical teams that work in hospitals, often dealing with people at some of their worst times, but it's a terrible place to rest and heal. Being woken up every few hours, hooked to monitors, the IVs that always decide to alarm just as you get back to sleep.

Take your time to rest, heal, think things over, and make adjustments. The clown car will most likely come roaring back at the most unexpected time. Hugs to you, and to JB - so glad he was not at his Mom's when this hit!

  23. You have been in my thoughts since you announced last week about your unexpected surgery. My husband had to have a colostomy in 2017 due to some complications with another medical emergency. I know it is not easy, but you can have a relatively normal life... with a few adjustments along the way.
Take all the time you need to find yourself again. All the emotions you feel are valid and expected. I am rooting for you!! Take every day as it comes - some days may be easier than others. I know that sounds so cliche, but it is true. Savor those good moments -- they will help you more than you realize.
Sending you lots of love and positive thoughts!

  24. OH, how I hurt for you and your heart and soul. this is recuperating time. Rest, rest, and more rest. How I wish I could come cook and clean for you for a few weeks!

  25. I have been EXACTLY where you are now. It gets a whole lot easier honey, but it doesn't happen overnight. Lean on your ostomy nurse. They are wonderful and will help with everything. Its a " try everything until you discover what works best for you" situation. Sending good karma to you!

  27. Glad to hear that you're home. I, for one, don't expect you to act fun, rainbows, glitter and unicorns right now. I expect you need to rest and recover and adjust, quietly.
Sending gentle hugs and prayers for healing and peace. I'll light a prayer candle for you at mass tonight. --Lynn in South Jersey

Coni, first of all I’m so happy to hear that you are at home and that Rich was home when this all happened. Secondly, please be kind to yourself and allow not only your body but also your spirit heal. Unlike belly bean, this was not something you had prepared and anticipated happening so you are still processing it all. Crawl up in your big girl bed with lots of books and let your body recover. We don’t expect all laugh and giggles every time you post because let’s face it, life kicks us all in the teeth sometimes. We care about you and just need to know how are you feeling both physically and mentality. We’ll all be here when you feel like checking in again.
Take care of you and allow Rich to help you heal.
    Luv ya

  30. Hopefully the bag will only be temporary while everything heals and in a few months, they will close it. My Mother had to have a bag when she had emergency surgery for about 6 months. She was very depressed. Know that there are better days ahead. We are all praying for you.

  35. My heart goes out to you ❤️. Give yourself grace that you are doing the very best you can. Anyone would feel as you do. It is a big change, physically and mentally. Your mind has to accept what has happened to your body. It will take time to come to terms with your new life, but you will be okay. Love yourself and only speak positively to yourself. I am sending you strength and peace. ❤️
