IN WHICH BUZZY MISBEHAVES AND GETS SENT TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE

Ugh.

My first dialysis session was a piece of cake...low and slow and about two and a half hours.  I chattered like a circus monkey but got the lay of the land a bit and came home with two small booboos.

The second session was going just fine until I bent my arm (to see if I could stitch), infiltrated, and all hell broke loose.  Three techs and what felt like minor surgery later and I came home with instructions to ice the arm, six booboos and enough tape to circle the globe.

Today?  I thought I was doing fine, but after an hour the nurse pulled the plug.  Literally.

So I'm home with Buzzy under an ice pack and an appointment at 8am Friday morning to have him checked at the access center and then we'll try again with the dialysis on Friday afternoon.

Greusome, I tell ya.  Just freakin greusome.  Between the eyeball and a now very swollen and black and blue arm, I look like a character in a Stephen King novel.

Dialysis. Sucks.

    1. Coni's Feb. 10 post explained. "Buzzy is the name that I've given to my AV fistula. A fistula is created to allow a bigger/stronger vessel for hemo-dialysis. In my case, the incision is in the inner bend of my left elbow, and the actual fistula area is just above the bend on the inside of my arm. As the blood flows through this new pipe, you can feel a "buzzing" sensation....called the thrill."

  5. Sigh....rough day, but this will pass as you get more and more sessions under your belt I am sure. Sorry you're having to go thru this - it's a shame they can't run it somewhere other than your arm, it seems like that would limit a LOT of people as to what they can do while it's all going on.

  8. On a positive note you have great eyebrows - love the arch. Mine are drawn on and I would give almost anything (certainly not my Jack Russell or my wonderful husband)to have au natural eyebrows! Happy & Healthy New Year Coni - I am sure you will enjoy this New Year's Eve having some one you care for to share it with.

  9. It doesn't suck if it is going to bring you to a level of
comfort and health that you have been seeking...Don't have to tell you to be patient, you are a champion in that department... Hope the ice and short reprieve will enable you to carry on toward your goal....

  10. Oh, Coni, I pray once this "issue" is fixed, it will be much smoother sailing. But you can still present a bad situation with a funny twist. Keep your humor, it helps, I hope.

  11. Not a very smooth entry for you. I am hoping for better days, because a bumpy start doesn’t have to keep on in the same direction.

  14. Me thinks that perhaps you weren't quite as resigned and accepting as you thought to dialysis as a necessity... can you possibly reframe your thinking so that it really is a good, albeit annoying and frustrating, thing? Consider the alternative! Keep on keeping on, with your funny bone firmly in tact. With best hopes and wishes that Buzzy gets over his bad boy fit and that things progress more easily and smoothly fromantic here. You have experienced worse, and came out a smiling champeen. You can do this! Your legions of friends and fans are rooting for you, with loads of love and compassion.

  15. I am so sorry you are having such a rough time of it Coni! Yes, I am sure dialysis sucks. Illness sucks period. It is very hard to adjust to changes in our health...I get frustrated daily because I can`t do whet I want and go where I want. But you know what? It is better than the alternative. I just keep trying to find ways to cope. Please know that things will smooth out as time goes on. This is just another bump in the road my dear...I know you have the courage to deal with it!
    Lots of love Mj

  16. Coni, Have you watched the series "Magic City" on Netflix? It stars Jeffery Dean Morgan! I started watching it without know it was he. He is great in the series. It is about the a hotel owner (JDM)and the mafia located in Miami. It can be a bit gruesome but after all it has Jeffery Dean in it. I thought he may take your mind off of the dialysis procedure while you are relaxing in your recliner. Trust your caregivers...your best interest is at the heart of their care.

  17. I really thought you would just go to dialysis and it would be a breeze and you would be feeling absolutely wonderful. If only right? I hope it starts going smoother for you very soon!
