TWO OUTTA THREE AIN'T BAD...

My Saturday was almost as I had planned.  There was stitching and footballing, but alas, no swimming.  I returned from my outing at Miss Jane's church with that bloody headache, so opted for a nap and some quiet time with Flosstube instead of braving the heat and humidity.

I suspect that this is par for the course at this stage in the disease.  My docs are all on board and I know to get to the ER if it worsens or any other troubling symptoms arise.  I fear, however, that it might be an indication that dialysis is getting closer and closer.

My Jersey Boy took his afternoon walk yesterday and returned with a present better than dozens of long-stemmed red roses.  When he presented them to me I actually shed a tear and then clutched them to me in sheer delight.

My bagels.

I buy and eat a special New York bagel from the Martin's each day, and my friend noticed that I went without yesterday morning on my way to stitching.  So without me having to ask or bat my eyelashes or nag...he took himself over there and found the exact right thing to give to me at the exact right time.

Who needs diamonds and pearls and flowers and perfume when you can have the perfect bagel?!

Life is swell here at CS2.  We're falling into a lovely, quiet, happy routine of TeeVee and stitching, conversation and laughter, and the occasional field trip to local establishments for refreshment.  For the first time in my life I'm not wanting to have big conversations or ask the hard questions...I'm just enjoying each moment and looking forward to the next giddy adventure.

Dreams of Stewey are more vivid than ever.  Last night I thought of him in his little wiglet.  He and Bosco were on the school bus, and Stewey was wearing his wig and carrying a briefcase and a Wonder Woman lunchbox.  Bosco was all boy...jeans and a little t-shirt and a Power Ranger clutched in his little paw.  I think Stewey was trying to read the paper on his morning commute and Bosco was busying humself wondering what would be on the lunch menu.

The soundtrack to that dream was laughter and giggles, and I awoke smiling.

So today will be more of the same.  Perhaps a little more progress on Red Velvet Cake and some football of the NFL variety.  If the weather cooperates, I might try a dip and float a little later, but for now I'm content to finish another cup of damn good and the paper.

Happy, happy Sunday, Dearies!  I hope that whatever it is you're doing is exactly what makes your heart sing today!

  3. Dear Coni, I'm loving to read about your happiness. Jersey Boy is obviously a keeper if he can bring you a bagel! The visual of Stewey and Bosco on the bus had me laughing out loud. I envisaged Stewey in a tweed knickerbockers and a matching cap.
Sorry to hear the headache reared its ugliness again. I hope it clears up really quick so you can enjoy being a floozy again.

  13. Love the Red Velvet stitchery and so happy to read about your fella. ❤️ Now I have a question for you and your expert following. My Mom is still able to needlepoint, but she only likes to do the pieces in which the design is pre-stitched. She fills in the background. Tonight while digging through her stash, we found a bell pull she started years ago and put away because she didn't like her results. The design is worked in petit point and she was doing a regular sewing stitch. When she reached the design area, she just didn't like the different stitches together. Any thoughts on how to best stitch this piece? Phyllis

    1. OK, Spinster Nation...what say you? My own mom worked canvases in this way, but I'm afraid that I don't have one clue as to what to suggest. Experts...please weigh in for Miss Phyllis and her Mo-ther!

    2. Hi Phyllis. By sewing stitch do you mean tent stitch? That is when the thread is like a 1/2 cross from bottom left to upper right on the front of the canvas. That is the traditional way to stitch canvases with pre-worked designs. There is definitely a different appearance with the size change between the design and the background even though the stitches all run in the same direction, and it just comes with the territory. If the canvas is the Penelope type, then your mother has the option of stitching petit point, but it can be hard on the eyes, and she may need to supplement the yarn supplied. Her best bet really is to work Continental Stitch. The goal is just to keep her stitching, so whatever she decides to do will be perfect as long as she enjoys the process.

    3. Thanks Pam for your help. She does use the traditional stitch that you described. The canvas is Penelope type, but she is not interested in doing the entire piece in petit point. The funny thing about this bell pull is she found a short and long version with the same pattern in her stash! Must have been a huge sale. hahaha

  14. So great to hear about the goings on of you and Jersey Boy. I have a Jersey Boy of my own. My hubby was born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey. Glad to hear about your bagel. Take care of your headache. 😀 Miss Ellie would love to join the boys on the bus. However she would need her tiara, pearls, and sequined purse. 😀
