DAMNIT, GUMBY

Here's what Come Tarry is supposed to look like.
Here's my progress thus far:

See what I did?!  I smooshed all the words together because I wasn't paying attention.  They are supposed to be spread across the thing with sections in between.

OK.  Deep breath.  There's no way in holy heck I'm frogging all of those over one letters.  I think I will just futz a little with rearranging the chart a bit and will make this into a mini sampler.  Then, maybe in a little while I will do it again correctly.

Phooey.

  1. I think it's beautiful, Coni! And just so you know you aren't alone... My husband and I decided the other day to sell our house. Now, this isn't something that we planned or discussed or had on some retirement goal timeline or anything. No, it was just my husband saying, after coming home from a business trip, "I think we should sell the house" and me responding with, "Ok!" 5 minutes later I texted a realtor friend and now find myself in a whirlwind of packing, cleaning, culling, planning a yard sale, looking at houses and wondering how I got here. The comps from the realtor show that the majority of houses in our market sell in 5 days or less! Not that I'm complaining, but with a 30 day escrow that doesn't give us a lot of time to find our dream house, so we may need to shelter in an apartment for a while which means moving.....TWICE. Oh joy! I'll keep you posted. I may need a sanity check or two during this process.

  2. Just add the borders above the words. Voila! pretty embroidery and easily read words.

  3. I'm with Sharon...just do the bands above the wording. Or frog...i know it's a bad bad word...but perhaps after a cooling off period??? 🙄

  4. I think your work is just beautiful,
I wouldn't change a thing! Just stitch all the bands above, and you'll see!
There's no way I would frog all those letters...over one? Nah...it would ruin the linen, and you'll have to restitch those letters all over again...nah!
Just getting to bed after having a BBQ and fire pit for our son and his best buddies...I'm so TIRED because I cooked for two days...but tomorrow: I STITCH!!

  5. I think I might have done that on purpose. I've never liked my poems or quotes all strung out. It will be glorious and it will be your own.

  6. I think it is beautiful.. Simply redo the other parts above. It will be uniquely yours!

  7. Just say it's creative licensing and call it good. I think it looks great.

  9. I've been toying with doing Come Tarry for some time. I didn't pull the trigger because I didn't particularly like how the poem was spread out over the sampler...it's a beautiful poem that I think has more impact when it's together. I'm going to buy the pattern now and stitch it like you did...thanks for the idea!

  10. I think it looks fine. I've done that myself a time or two. ;) Love, hugs & Prayers, Cathryn ♥

  11. I like it your way better. Just do the bands on top of the words.

  12. Creative genius and uniquely yours. What's not to like? And BTW, I think it actually looks better your way. When you have time, take a quick look at LJP's site. Love the patriotic wreath. Happy 4th of July everyone.

  13. Coni, I like your version better than the original. I would just stitch the bands above the wording and carry on.

  14. What do they call mistakes -- creative opportunities? Carry on, my dear! ox

  15. It's an opportunity to release your inner graphic designer and play. It may not be "as it should be" (ha - how many of us are that way?) but you may end up liking it a whole lot better.

  16. You could just stitch an extra motif each side of the wording and leave it, that is what I would do!
Hope you have a wonderful stitchy day, take it slowly with the unpacking! xo Mj

  17. Just eliminate one band that would be equal or close to it that takes the same amount of space/threads as you used for the wording and then just keep on stitching. It looks like a beautiful piece. I am a painted canvas girl (I use that word loosely)because it is quick and easy for me to see exactly where I need to keep stitching. You do such beautiful work especially on 32 ct linen - I bow down to you my dear - don't fret just keep on keeping on! (I pulled that one out from about the 70's)Enjoy your Sunday - we are having bar-be-que ribs, etc and having my 95 year old mother over for Sunday dinner - then stitching on new grandson's Christmas stocking.

  18. Coni, I agree that your way is much easier to read. It will be just as beautiful.

  19. I have BTDT, and I look at it as now you have a very unique design that nobody else has...you didn't miscount, you personalized it ;) See how I did that?

  20. It will work out just fine! Instead of being interspersed between the bands, you now have the saying altogether. Same amount of space, different order. Just continue to stitch the sampler as charted, skipping over the words. Remember, it could have been designed this way. :)

  21. It's yours. Arrange it anyway you like!

  22. I like what you've done and it's one of a kind. good for you.

You know what? I like your version better. Not that Shepherd's Bush isn't great and everything, but, hey, the chart is theirs THIS is YOURS. And while right now might seem pretty sucky, one day you're going to be able to look back on it and say. "I survived!" This sampler, your interpretation of a design, will remind you every time you look at it of the fact that you came through. A little wack-a-doodle sometimes, forced occasionally off the charted path. but you did it. All through my 20 years as an Army wife and my last five as an Army mom, I stitched to stay sane (okay, so sane may be a subjective term), but every piece of needlework now stands as a testament, mistakes and all, to my ability to come through the dark into the light, to fall and get right back up and keep going. Keep stitching girlie. Keep doing what you're doing and never be so hard on yourself. You are the you God made. He loves you and so do all your stitchy friends.

  24. Looks perfect! I love turning everything into a band sampler. It works, Baby! Go for it. You can do it!

  25. "Frankly, my Dear," I like the way you've "chosen" to do this. I prefer my poetry in one lump sum not scattered throughout (sorry, Shepherd's Bush). Just continue on with the rest of the bands. No one (except you and the bazillions of us you've just told -I'm kidding) will know the difference. Everyone who sees it will just be awed by your beautiful stitching. Carry on, everything will be just fine.

  26. That's not an error; you're just making the piece your own. It will be beautiful with some bands above the wording.

  27. Love the lettering you used....did you happen to chart it out? Wouldn't change a thing....just reorganize or eliminate another band

  28. I prefer it your way. Smooshed is good.

  29. I like your way very much! Pls don't change it!🐕🌻🌹👌

  30. I agree with everyone. It will be one of a kind done your way. Please show us how it all pulls together as you work it. I'd also love to see a comparison of your finished version and the photo on the chart. That would be fun.

  31. I think it will look just fine that way. Over 1 frogging is never fun!

  32. I like yours better. Courage, dear. You've already beaten most of the hard part.

  33. I like yours better too! A little error makes it more precious to the receiver!
