HEADING OUT FOR PROVISIONS...

OK, I've procrastinated long enough.  It's time for me to put my shoes and socks on and go to the grocery.  I am pretty sure that it's going to kill me physically, but I really really really need the fresh air and exercise and the pickings are a bit slim around here for meals.

What I want are PopTarts and Swedish Fish and bar-b-que potato chips.

And dietCoke.

(By the way...is it just me, or does anybody else go into a tizzy every time a dietCoke commercial comes on?!  Good grief, Charlie Brown!  I knew I liked the stuff and missed it now that I can't have it, but I actually shed a tear over it last night!)

(A tear!)

(Over dietCoke!)

(I swear it to be true.  Really.  I do.)

What I'll get, though, will be fruits and veggies, sprouted grain bread, and salmon.  And sparkle water that is good for me but tastes of nothing at all.

Phooey.

Don't cry for me Argentina.  Eating healthy and having the means to do so are an enormous blessing for which I am incredibly thankful.  There will be plenty of time for PopTarts someday, I imagine, but right now I've got a number to reach for the transplant surgeon and I'm going to do it.  As of today I am 130 pounds down from my highest weight ever, 60 pounds down in the last year, 20 pounds away from where he wants me and 100 pounds away from where I want to be.

Piece 'o cake.

(Dang it.)

(Now I want cake.)

OK.  Enough.  Onward!

  1. You never crave anything, you know, until you're told you can't have it. Think of your diet as a prolonged Lent, and 'offer it up', as the good Sisters used to tell us;)

And congrats on wonderful progress. Amazing, Coni!

  5. good luck with all that! I too am a kidney patient and had to give up diet soda - apparently that is one BIG no no and now have learned to drink 2 liters of water every darn day. Takes practice, but once you drink all that water you can't think about drinking anything more (except maybe coffee)

  7. Add cut up fruits and cucumber slices to your sparkle water. It makes the contents of the pitcher look exotic and you'll feel you're at a spa....maybe??! My diet soda vice is diet root beer...dang, I want one now....because I'm supposed to limit my caffeine intake. Otherwise I'm a Diet Pepsi girl...

I just got the ok to exercise again so it's back to the elliptical machine & the lil skinny gal on the DVD. I argue insult & basically speak bad things to her as I do the 30 min work out 3 x a wk but it works. I lost 40 lbs 3 yrs ago (gained back 8) so am ready to get going again. My goal is 75 lbs.
    We CAN do this.
    Blessings

  15. I am lucky enough not to have had to diet before, but I have always admired people who did. Food is not one of those things you can go cold turkey on, so I just wanted to tell you how much I really am impressed by you. GREAT GOING You've got this young lady!

    1. Hi, Nicole! We have Groceries to Go...you order online and then pull through the drive up and they load into your car. I haven't tried it yet because I need the exercise, but I would imagine that's going to come in handy very very soon!

  17. Wow you are incredible for losing that much weight. Doctor said I need to lose 25 and he might as well have asked me to hike Grand Canyon. I just can't get myself to do it.

  19. Good for you, Coni! Remember it is small steps to take each day. Can you add lemon or lime or orange slices to your sparkling water or something like peppermint or cinnamon oil to give it some flavor? Enjoy your Saturday!

  20. I'm very happy to hear what you've accomplished so far. I know it's not easy and applaud you! Keep it up, especially since you have a very special reason to reach your goal.

  23. Good for you, Coni! You're right. Much easier to give up cigarettes, alcohol, or just about anything else (not that breaking those other habits are easy, by any means), but you can't live without food. Just do things little by little, step by step, and you will accomplish your goal. Then someday, when you get the all-clear signal from the doctor, you might find, after eating healthy for so long, that going back to Pop Tarts and Coke makes you feel so bad physically that you can't bring yourself to consume them any more. Horrifying thought, I know, but it has been my experience. Sadly, no more Totino's (or, in some areas, Jeno's) pizza rolls or Dolly Madison Raspberry Zingers for me. The upside is that you will have a brand new kidney and you will have the energy to do all kinds of things that you always wanted to do, but didn't have the physical wherewithal to do before. Like romping in a park with a new furry friend that Stewey has guided your way someday.

    Many blessings!

  24. I've heard Jeffrey Dean Morgan loves sparkling water! :)

You've done a great job and don't ever doubt it! It's hard (and a lot of work) to eat healthy!

  27. Coni,

Have you ever tried these in your water or fizzy water? https://www.truelemonstore.com/category-s/1854.htm?gclid=CPvOk7ep99MCFYaFswodB4QEIg

I get mine in the baking aisle because then it is truly just cold pressed lime with nothing else. You can find them in the drinks aisle in lots of flavors but they have that fake sugar added. Just a thought!
