DEAR WORLD

I'm a proud citizen of the United States of America, I really am.  But, recent televised events have sent me to my bed...covers pulled over my head in complete and utter shame.

The nastiness, bickering, vulgarity, and constant accusations are, quite simply put, not worthy of a great nation like ours and we can do better.  We have a responsibility to our children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends to demonstrate that we really do have more sense than God gave a turnip.

But what I watched on the television really makes me wonder, and has me itching to shout from the rooftops.."ON BEHALF OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, I, THE SPINSTER STITCHER, HER VERY SELF, DO HEREBY APOLOGIZE FOR THE IDIOCY, BOORISH BEHAVIOUR, AND BAD JUJU THAT HAS BEEN SPEWN FORTH LIKE SOME KIND OF DEMENTED WATER WIGGLE SET ON HIGH.  THE VAST MAJORITY OF US ARE KIND, GENTLE, LOVING, HAPPY, GENEROUS, WELL-MEANING PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT TO LIVE OUR LIVES THE BEST WAY WE KNOW HOW AND TO KEEP ON KEEPING ON WITH THAT WHOLE LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS THING."

Wait a minute.

I bet you're totally confused right about now and are wondering when I decided to start talking about the p-word on this here blog.

The p-word!

But I'm not talking about politics.

I'm talking about The Real Housewives of Orange County and the fact that they went to Dublin, Ireland and acted like a bunch of idiot, loudmouthed, uncouth, vulgar, obnoxios Americans, and I'm pretty sure that they confirmed every single negative stereotype you can have about a national people.

So...

I'm so sorry, Dublin.  Please don't think that every single one of us over here is at all like that.  There really are those of us who would love to visit your beautiful country and to learn more about your history and culture and people.

Unfortunately, none of them occupy makeup trailers on the set of Bravo reality shows, apparently.

As for that other thing...(the p-word)... sorry.  Can't help you there.  I've taken a vow of silence and am waiting for my meds to wear off so I can wake up with the scarecrow, tin man, and cowardly lion telling me all about that tornado that knocked me out and made that house fall on my sister...

  1. Love this! I, too, watched last night's debacle in Ireland. Never was the term "Ugly American" more apt! Well, almost never. Keeping you and Stewey in my prayers as you keep me chuckling and chortling. Thanks for a clever Segway this morning!

  2. Hahaha. I don't watch Orange County, though I do watch New York, Beverly Hills and New Jersey, so I can well imagine the shenanigans!

  3. I stopped watching those shows a few years ago as I no longer wanted to have such trivial non-sense floating around in my mind. Sad really that these shows continue to reward these women and men with celebrity and money while hard working individuals who do good everyday are struggling. Life is too darn short not to say enough and stop supporting what's wrong. IMHO. Okay off my soapbox now. lol I admit that for years I too supported the "franchise" of the housewives shows. We all deserve better.

  4. Coni, your post had me chuckling because it was appropriate regarding thet housewives program, but also the current political scene. I hope you pull out from under the covers and put in a few stitches on Vaceila.

  6. I deliberately avoid all and every reality show. Their lives are of no interest to me. Their ignorance does not entertain me. I have enough reality of my own, thank you very much.
Vaceila is going to be spectacular!

  7. I don't watch the realties...
-G-I-G-O .... Have just enough gray matter
to contain the wonders and beauty of what
has truly been created for us in our world.
However, the comparison of Orange County with
the P word in Washington, is not beyond the pale.
Some old fashioned refinement and noblesse oblige
might restore our pride in who we are. If the
realties make their noise and no one is listening,
    do they matter...?

  9. No reality for me! Television or otherwise! hahahaha Unfortunately, I think MY meds did wear off and I didn't like what I was seeing and hearing and it chased me right back to my medicine cabinet and my coffee! Now ... where did I put the chocolate. Escape, escape, escape! Hugs & prayers, -Cathryn

  10. I never watch reality shows for that very reason! Unfortunately your post is apprpo of more than reality shows. Still, stitching and spinning and weaving can help balance my humors quite a bit!

  12. I have found that the majority of TV does not improve or belong in my daily life!! I so seldom watch anything anymore; if I do, it is usually the old black & white shows that were not violent, dirty-mouthed, or vulgar - they also actually have comedy that is funny instead of disrespectful to all of us. Moving on, I hope you have a day of sunshine and joy!

  13. Oh, I agree so heartily with your post here. I watched that episode and was so saddened by their vulgarity and portrayal of American citizens as boorish and ill mannered. Instead of seeing the beautiful countryside and truly drinking in the culture they just drank like fish and talked down to the locals like they were all stereotypes. A grown man with an accent is going to give you a death stare when you mock his accent as Lucky Charms. Kelly is a horrible addition to this series, but the others aren't much better. SIGH
