THE WAY BACK?

I've been so frustrated with my lack of stitching (and reading and writing and cooking and blogging and sleeping) that I decided to go back to basics.  A lovely little needlepoint canvas done all in tent stitch with Vineyard Silks.

This is Birds of a Feather's Flowers in a Yellow Vase:

  5. When in doubt, go back to the basics.....or learn a new skill or refresh an old one. My mojo got up and went...away...far, far away. Fifty years ago, I knit several projects for 4-H, I was 15. I decided to pick up knitting needles again and guess what? My mojo came roaring back. I've completed a vest, almost finished with a 4'x6' blanket, and I'm about ready to turn the heel of a hand knit sock. Who knew?
Hugs to you both from Tucson, AZ

  6. What a cheerful piece - those colours will light up the room, any room.

I did Van Gogh's sunflowers long ago, also in good old tent, but when it came to the background I did each alternate row in the opposite direction: first row ///, second row \\\ etc. Regardless of colour changes. This gave a play-of-light effect that still pleases me after several decades, and made it less, well, repetitive.

Delighted you're up and at it again.

  8. So pretty! Love the idea of switching to needlepoint. Ever since I finished a large project I have had trouble getting jazzed about another. Sometimes a new direction is the ticket! Have a great day. Enjoy your new finish!

  9. I often leave basketweave to do for those moments when creativity is nowhere to be found, or when I'm struggling with stitch choice or compensation-- I get a sense of accomplishment while letting my subconscious work out what to do and how to do it!

  12. As usual, your stitchy instincts are spot-on! I find stitching with Vineyard Silks, Silk & Ivory and other threads that don't need to be plied or laid to be very addicting! And doing basket weave without having to worry about compensating?? Heaven! Projects like this remind us of why we stitch in the first place! :)
