YEAH, RIGHT. LIKE I NEED TO KILL MORE BRAIN CELLS.

I don't drink alcohol, but I spent the better part of the weekend nursing a hangover of epic proportions. As much as I'd love to tell you that it was the result of sipping too much champagne while aboard Jeffrey Dean Morgan's yacht, I'm afraid that it was nothing more than the tail end of a good old fashioned migraine.

It all started innocently enough. Aunt Chrissy and I decided to go for the fishes dinner at the Culver's, and about 3/4 of the way through my cole slaw I felt like my left eye was going to pop right out of my head and right onto my plastic spork. Fast forward to 3am, and I was face down on the cool ceramic tile of the bathroom, praying for death.

Needless to say, not a whole lot of stitching went on this weekend, but I did manage to poke a needle through a new start last night while watching the Academy Awards.

Is it just me, or did the entire thing make you want to go back to the movie theater? I haven't been in quite some time because I am convinced that I can have a much better movie viewing experience from the friendly confines of my Happy Chair, instead of having to listen to some twelve year old jackass talk on her cell phone for ninety six minutes while stuffing her face with popcorn, but I really do want to consider going back to viewing things on the big screen, since I think that the handsome French guy that won Best Actor would be even better four stories tall.

(Note to self....don't look for any awards for your writing anytime soon, especially given the fact that you can't seem to put together a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight.)

Here are three really terrible pictures of some of the things that I played with this weekend. 'Scuse the mess, friends. I'm just not very good at posing my stitching properly for its close up.

This is the new start: Barnwood Buttons by Rosewood Manor. I'm stitching it on 28ct. Raisin Cashel with Weeks Dye Werks Light Khaki, and I'm trying my best not to ruin, break, or lose the gorgeous buttons for it. (This one had me at hello.)
As God is my witness, I am going to finish this canvas this year. I keep thinking that a border would do it wonders, so maybe I'll futz with that for a bit before tackling the next flower. (Thread selection and stitch guide are by Miss Ruth of Bedecked and Beadazzled. Canvas is from Maggie and Co.)

And can I get a big Woo Hoo from the congregation?! I had to move the q-snaps! Now if I can just stick with this, maybe it will see the inside of the Michael's framing department before it's time to think about starting the summer girl! (Oh, sorry. This is Le Printemps from Birds of a Feather.)
So there you have it. Not much to show, but at least I'm upright and not clutching the Tylenol bottle. God willin' and the creek don't rise, I'm going to see what I can do about getting some progress made on SOMETHING by the end of the day, even if it's just a few stitches.

  1. My life is dictated by migraines and that was a great description of one. I think you made lots of stitching progress. As always, everything looks lovely.

  2. I know s migraine is not a laughing matter, but you've described it beautifully and with humour. So glad you're feeling better.
Quick question: in the photo with the flower canvass, there are pages of notes (very neat and tidy). Do you have a system before starting a piece?
Thanks so much once again for your humour and inspiration!

    1. Hey, Miss Nina! The notes that you see in the photo are actually the stitch guide that I received from Miss Ruth. But I do have a project notebook that I use to record all of the details of a project (like the linen, threads, start date, etc.) While I'd love to tell you that my record keeping is a habit that I developed on my own, I shamelessly copied it from Aunt Chrissy. She is a stitchy journaler extroidanaire!

  3. Dr Oz says 600 mg of ibuprofen and 500 mg of acetaminophen taken together sometimes does the trick for helping a migraine. I wish this was on a few weeks earlier...I would have tried it in a heartbeat to get rid of the one I had!!

  4. In the old days, the pill of choice was cafergot for migraines. I really think the caffeine in it was what helped so much. Next time you start to get a migraine, try brewing very strong (full of caffeine) coffee and try that. It sure has helped me over the years. I love the progress on the ufos and the new start.

  6. Girlfriend, get thee to the CVS for some Excedrin Migraine! I swear by the stuff. There's a bottle of it everywhere in my house! Seriously! Love your stitching progres!

  7. Glad to hear you're feeling better! And you should have seen Jean DuJardin 4 stories tall. We go to matinees and have to put up with old people talking and not getting the gist of the movie. (Seriously we went to Tinker Tailor and the old people were so confuzzled!) There has to be a time for middle-aged watchers to watch in silence.

  8. Isn't the frenchman absolutley gorgeous! My oh my. I think Billy Crystal was great, but I do think he's gone overboard with the botox and fillers. So great to see the Oscar's has become an international event. Love all your stitching and so glad to hear you're feeling better. Migranes are just a b-tch!

  9. I know too well the effects of a migraine. Only had a few of them, and thank goodness for that. Have you tried Execedrin Migraine. I pop three of those and drink a can of Coke or two and while I'm buzzing from all the caffeine, it also seems to help quite a bit.

Love your stitching. Le Printemps has been on my list forever!

  10. Coni,
I too watched the Oscars and felt the same way. I think that was their goal. I look forward to the Academy Awards every year - ever since I wrote a 25-page research paper on the history of the show in college. I also get migraines, but not often...although often enough....right behind the eyeball..life shuts down with one of those!

  11. I agree with you on going to the movies. After watching I wonder if any of those movies are still in town. Probably not...they don't last long anymore, do they? I LOVED the last set...the art deco movie theatre marquee. I was ready to go straight to a theatre!
Take care and hope you have a wonderful week.

  12. Oh how I love Barnwood Buttons - absolutely BE-U-T-FULL!!! Can't wait to see your progress.

I am so glad you are feeling better - sucks to have weekend plans of stitching and lots getting done to have been sidelined by any illness!!

  13. Ugh, migraines. They're rotten. I think mine sometimes trigger with air pressure or something. Glad your over yours and back to the Happy Chair.

Love stitching all around and I really really like the that gorgeous khaki linen. Fab design.

How do you keep your threads so neat?? Every time I pull a thread, I try to put the rest back on the holder but it never ever looks as neat as yours! You have mad organizational skills!

Last movie I saw on the big screen was Star Trek.....oooooh, Chris Pine's baby blues...

  14. Migraine's are nasty!
Try ice bag on head and feet in warm to hot water, with some Excedrin. Always works for me.
    Love your stories and stitching!

  17. For the migraine uninitiated, that is a great description. I have always wanted someone to cut my head off for me during said migraine, hand it to me so that I could run ice-cold water inside it, then have it re-attached. Weird thought yes, but I am sure that thought has helped me survive many attacks while the head is actually hanging over a bucket. Too descriptive, sorry but I know you will understand.
After all my ramble, I love your stitching choices, especially Barnwood Buttons.

  18. Oh, I know your pain, migraines are awful. You hurt so bad you want to die, then you come to the realization that, indeed, you won't. Only possible good thing is to try and sleep it out. For some reason, I can sometimes do that. I'm so sorry you were feeling awful.

You made me laugh about the movies - I believe that 12 y/o jackass is at my theater too! We often wait and just buy 'em off the cable. LOL

Your projects are coming along nicely - I can see you spending lots of time at the framing counter!

  20. So sorry about the migraine . I have never had one but my DH gets them every once in a great while. When it happens Scully and I head out to the barn to hang out. He has to have it super quiet......it's hard to stitch in the barn....lol

  21. I hear you about the migraines...a cold pack helps, and/or holding something cold in my mouth (ice cube if i`m on a diet, sherbet if i`m not!), a dark room, quiet and a strong man with a sledgehammer to knock me out. I often pray for death, but it never happens...

    Love your projects...esp the buttons.

    Kisses to Stewey and Bosco...

  22. Ditto everything on the migraines. Caffeine, Excedrin Migraine. And I understand the "hangover" ache/feeling the next day. Or, have you tried any of the newer migraine medicines, like Zomig or Maxalt? They are more specific than Imitrex (that gave me terrible chest tightness!). Maxalt works for me when more simple things don't.

    Love the Rosewood Manor!
