THREE DOWN, A BILLION AND A HALF TO GO

Cherry Cordial
Needle Delights Originals

Well woo hoo hoo hoo hoo for me today! I finished Cherry Cordial last night, and it's a good thing I did, because I was watching a movie at the time and had to keep rewinding it. Who says I can't do more than one thing at a time? (The movie was "Cop Land" and I thought it was very very good.) (But I've always enjoyed staring into the deep limpid pools of love that are Sylvester Stallone's, so what do I know?)

So Aunt Chrissy had to haul out the heavy equipment last night to get me partially off the edge. Yesterday I had every intention of cleaning my office, but it resulted in me shoving all of the furniture into the center of the room and then deciding to paint the walls instead. So rather than doing anything productive at all, I sat in a chair and fretted over the fact that I built this house in 2002 and have yet to add any color to the Big. White. Walls.

A trip to Lowe's armed with some Sherman Williams color cards, and I've got a lovely little project for the day....painting poster boards.

Yup. You read that right. Poster boards.

See, Aunt Chrissy knows that I have the attention span of a 300-pound hummingbird and that my "I have to paint these walls RIGHT NOW" mood will probably only last until Tuesday. So rather than going out and buying eighteen gallons of paint and then slapping something stupid up on the walls, we selected six colors and purchased the little sample cans. And, since we all know that I will probably have a nervous breakdown when I see said colors on the big white walls, Aunt Chrissy suggested that I paint poster boards and hang them up instead. That way, when I come to my senses, I can take the poster boards down, stash them in the garage for safekeeping, and nobody will be the wiser.

I know that you're sitting there thinking "For cryin' out loud, Spinster Stitcher! It's only paint!". but I have a way of turning something very simple into something very angst inspiring, so we've learned to adapt.

What can I say? It's not easy being me.

So today I'm going to clean the kitchen and the office and then go outside to paint a few poster boards. I'll tack them up throughout the house and then take pics so that we can all vote on what the appropriate colors should be for Chez Spinster.

Won't this be fun?!!

(I saw that. Stop rolling your eyes at me!) Have a Happy Friday and a Splendid Weekend!

  3. Aunt Chrissy is right and it will be fun. We got a wonderful colour for our house in Illinois using pb and then we moved, sob! We're back to stark white so I'll be joining you at Lowe's or wherever!

I think "small scale paint testing" is a marvelous idea!

  5. I LOVE to paint...much to the dismay of my poor DH!!!! Can I come over and help???? With all the color you do in your needlework, you should love color on your walls! Just think how wonderful your needle projects are going to look on colored walls!!

  7. Your finish looks great.

As for the walls - surely you need them plain and neutral to showcase all your needlework? ;o)

  8. Your finish is stunning!

Painting is always fun! My husband loves to paint and always laughs at how I anguish over colors!

Can't wait to see the colors you picked to try!

  9. Cherry Cordial is fantastic ~ congrats!

Aunt Chrissy's idea is also fantastic! I wish I had thought of something like that. All too often I've painted walls and fallen out of love with the color only to re-paint weeks or months later in white. Aunt Chrissy is one smart chica! I can't wait to see the colors you've chosen. I love bright, cheerful colors but I always end up with white or pale blue. Chicken, I suppose.

    Have a great weekend!

  11. White is NOT the only neutral background for all your needlework. I have white walls in my apartment and wish I could paint them a warm lucsious color, but then I would have to restore them to their original white before I move out, and who wants to bother with that when you're moving?
Cherry Cordial is gorgeous...I love it.

  12. Onh Conni as long is the color is purple or lavender and yellow I am good to go with those choices. Those are the colors of my home (historic 1911) inside and out and the color of my offices. hehe I know everyone else is doing sage ::::sigh:::: I vote for lavender!

  13. BTW I consdier Purple to be a neutral.
Loved your Cherry Cordial too I forgot to mention that as I was salivating over the finish.

  14. Oh, I love painting! And oh, I hate painting! Color decisions are difficult for me, too, so I'm relieved to know that you've lived there as long as I've been in my house and haven't painted. I've only painted my bedroom and bathroom, and those overly-off-white walls bug me all the time.

The only thing we do differently is that I narrow the color choices to three or four and paint large spots on the actual walls to help me decide. That way, I have to paint to get rid of the spots. The big spots will bother me enough that I'll get off my ass and do the job.

  15. Congratulations on liberating another UFO from your basket. Cherrry Cordial is beautiful!

I can hardly wait to hesar what Stewey has to say about the painting. ;)

  16. That was "hear", BTW, not "hesar" - whatever that is.

  19. Hey! I like your idea! Now my DH would think I was totally crazy if I suggested it, but we have lived here over ten years and my living room is in desperate need of a paint job. I may try it. (He will lock me up for sure.) Cherry cordial is delicous by the way.

  20. I sympathize with the problem of painting walls and making it a project bigger than it needs to be. My DH and I tried it once and decided from here on out, leave that job to the professionals. You are great with color so picking the paint colors should be the fun part.

    Have a nice weekend.

  21. Wow, where were you two weeks ago when we decided to give the basement walls a new coat of paint. We did get the four samples, but put it right on the walls. Only problem with all that is that there are a lot of shadows, it was hard to get a good read because the paint was on the walls. The poster board would have been a nicer idea - move them around the room. But I do have to say that I think those paint samples are just about the best idea that anyone has come up with.

  22. Oh forgot to add, with all the excitement about the poster board, that I just love Cherry Cordial. Such beautiful colors!

  23. Cherry Cordial looks great! Congratulatons on your 3rd finish for the year - !!! You ARE on a roll - AND painting walls - keep up the motivation,
I work for a paint company and we are always sending out A4 brushouts of colours - mostly to architects and designers - so they can be placed on the wall before a paint job - great idea! Looking forward to the colour choices!

  25. I love Cherry Cordial! The poster board idea is fab. I need to paint my spare room... may just try this idea out.

  26. Aunt Chrissy is a very sensible woman. Doing the poster boards is a great idea. Just think, you could do all kinds of fun graphics with them.

    Cherry Cordial looks lovely.

  27. Cherry Stunning. Cherry Gorgeous. Cherry Beautiful.

On the other hand, you need a mantra before tackling those walls. "Paint is good. Paint is good. Paint is good." Can't wait to see how this all turns out.

  28. Cherry cordial is gorgeous! Congrats.

Have fun painting your poster boards.

  29. After we bought our house, hubby and I narrowed down our color choices and then painted big splashes of what we thought would be the chosen color on each well of the room being painted. That way, we could see different shadows, types of day, and colors of light. Most of our choices were spot on, but this method did save us from the cranberry office, which would have been hideous.

  30. hooray for your finish too
really a neat design & color combos

  31. Love the finish!!! Good luck with picking the paint colors.

  32. Hi Coni, Love the Cherry Cordial. I wonder if you use one of the color ways they offer on their web site? It does appear to be different than their original one.

  33. I can understand the angst of picking out paint! My husband painted our bedroom 3 times in a year. When it came time to paint my new to me sewing room, he purchased 13 samples. He only wanted to paint once! What he didn't realized is that with that many sample blocks painted on the wall, he practically painted it twice anyway! Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing your selection. No More White Walls!

  34. OH, MY! (Mouth open in absolute shock over the beauty of this piece.) What a great job you've done with that UFO. Now, aren't you proud of yourself?

    Love Aunt Chrissy's idea!

  35. Coni: I think Aunt Chrissy needs a special commendation for help with the less fortunate (i.e. her sister). Talk about your cures for OCD, go Aunt Chrissy.
I am in the middle of a whole house paint and Ijust love all the nice neutral colors I have applied. Angst thy name is Janet.

  36. oh, coni i can RELATE!!!!!

i've been in my house going on 17 yrs this summer and still have the same "off white" walls! yes, the house needs painted and i'd be happy to use the same off white!

when i have pipes leak in the master bath/bedroom my contractor said "lets add some color!!!" i went with cream in the bedroom and biscuit in the bath. both light neutral colors.

so much for "color" in my life!

i'll look forward to your posterboards! gotta love aunt chrissy helping you out so!

  37. Cherry Cordial looks brilliant. It reminds me of a quilt block. I'm painting the walls later in the year. They are in a colour called Bali Sands (doncha just love the names of paints??)which is a warm, neutral sandy colour....works perfectly for whatever is hung up whether a quilt, photograph or cross stitch. As for white....have you seen how many shades of white there are? lol

  38. Despite your white walls, you and Stewy are the bright spots of my day. I live in a house filled with color and stitching and will keep my fingers crossed that you can, someday, open a can of paint and put it on a wall.

  39. Beautiful finish! Have fun with your colour choices.

  40. I would like my walls painted in the cherry cordial pattern. Think you can help me? Your blog is great, Coni. Glad so see you doing so well.

  41. Beautiful stitching! Ugh! Painting, it always sounds like a good idea until you start, then you get tired and wonder why I ever started this, and you can't quit once you start.

  42. Beautiful finish Coni!! Congrats on another UFO biting the dust! :) Good luck with the painting. My mom is the painter in our family. She paints everything - including the outside of her house recently (twice). I definitely didn't inherit that trait. I've never painted a wall in my life. :)
