EVEN AUNT CHRISSY HAS HAD ENOUGH OF MY SHENANAGINS

Oey.  Today is January 13th and I think I have now worked on 86 different needlework projects in the last fifteen minutes.  I know that I said this would be the year of stitching "Whatever The Damn Hell I Feel Like", but this is really ridiculous.

Aunt Chrissy is not only my stitching sensei, she is my biggest suppoter.  She always says "Oh, that's beautiful!" whenever I hand her something for perusal.  So imagine my surprise when, in the course of one of our conversations last night, she said "What the EFF are you doing?".  (Well, she didn't really say it that way exactly, but when I pointed out that I have been feeling rather discombobulted with my stitching lately...she agreed with me!) (Normally, she would just coo gently and talk me off the ledge, all the while making a mental note to call the doc in the morning for a sedative.)

So here I am again....showing you yet another project that I picked up last night.  This is DebBee's "Shenandoah Spring", and I think it's been languishing in the WIP Pile Of Death for about two years.  I love this piece, and am not sure why I ever put it down in the first place, so maybe I've hit upon something that can occupy me for more than nine seconds before I'm bored.

I suppose that part of my problem is that I'm trying to "force" it.  For whatever reason, I am really in a mood to stitch canvas pieces, yet I feel obligated to throw a little cross stitch in there so that I don't lose an entire population of my reading public. (Oh, who the heck am I kidding?  Y'all just come here to see if Stewey will make an appearance, so I should probably check my ego at the door and just get on with it.)

The first two ornaments in the LHN series arrived in the mail yesterday and I promptly went upstairs to hem the linen and get it onto q-snaps.  I settled in for what I thought would be several hours of cross stitchy love, but after two crosses, I was back upstairs fishing through canvas projects.  Sigh.  I suppose that I should just go with the flow and enjoy what I'm working on n'est pai?

No snowman for the StewMeister.  Just as we were about to go outside, he picked up his "baby" and headed to the big girl sleigh bed for a nap.  His baby is a little white teddy bear that Aunt Chrissy got him for Christmas, and for whatever reason he refuses to go to sleep without it.  So a nap we had, and I woke up just in time to get the lights on before the neighbors called the authorities. (What can I say?  My neighbors know how routine I am, and if they don't see my porch light go on at 4:30 in the afternoon, they panic.)

As much as I would love to make the snowman today, methinks I had better concentrate on laundry and housecleaning.  It's time that I start to realize that a 43 year old spinster is NOT a 22 year old frat boy, and as much as I love doing it, kicking one's underpants of onto the floor is just...not...civilized.

Happy Hump Day!

  1. You're right, Coni, Stewey is the only reason we come by.....NOT and don't even mention I said that to the little man!

  2. Hmmm, nice to hear some craziness in someone other than myself! Your neighborhood sounds like mine. I call ours the neighborhood police because you can do nothing without someone knowing. You must start the LHN ornaments. I received Fa La La and Pear Tree in the mail yesterday also and started Fa La La. I want to try to keep up so by Christmas this year I will have 12 ornaments for the tree. We'll see. But in all, now that I've written you a short novel, just remember that this is your hobby, so do what you want and don't worry if you stitch on a million things in one day. It's all right.

  3. Stitch whatever makes you happy! I visit as much for the smiles you bring as the gorgeous needlework of all kinds that you do. You just have the January blahs is all...

  4. I agree. I think you should stitch whatever makes you happy. If that happiness is canvas, then so be it!

That won't stop me from dropping by. My only fear is that I may pick up on the craziness and add canvas to my already full plate!

    Happy Canvas Stitching!

I get up put all that stuff back up and start all over picking out all the stuff to start the new project.. So pride I am not alone !!! LOL

  6. At least you have time to work on something! I've spent so much time working on the design and color of my first big project (a Quaker sampler) that I've made virtually no progress on my current project. SO, I'll never actually get to the big one...getting a bit annoying!

  7. Ha, we all have those days, sometimes weeks of restlessness. Bottomline is to do what makes us happy.

    Have a great afternoon!

  9. I love seeing your work no matter if it is cross stitch or needlepoint. Your projects always make me want to go out and buy the patterns. I bought Wander by Kimberly Crum because of your blog and I think others did the same b/c Needle in the Haystack was sold out...

  10. Even though I don't do canvas I still enjoy seeing them, and yeah, who doesn't love Stewey's posts, so I don't think you are in any danger of losing readers!

  11. you can stitch on WHATEVER you want! I love you canvas work and your crossstitching! I wish I could do that canvas work!
We come to your blog to hear about your days, what Stewey is up to and for a laugh or two to get through the dreary days!
So don't try to stitch for us...you do what YOU want ! We'll always come and read about your shenanagins!

  12. Coni, you are hemmed in by snow and cold... you are experiencing the winter blahs and so cannot concentrate on one project at a time. I suggest you and Aunt Chrissy book a trip to some place warm and sunny. Make sure they have copious amounts of beverages with umbrellas in them and hot and cold running cabana boys to serve those beverages... and anything else. Stay no less than a week, no more than a month, and you will be right as rain when you come home!

  13. Coni: OOH, OOH, OOH - I love your Shenandoah Spring piece - and your colors!!! Please stitch some more on that....I want to see what comes next! As for your fractured focus (or what I call PROJECT PARALYSIS), I get that way too - I think it's being surrounded by TOO MANY luscious projects that push and pull you in all different directions. Maybe you need to work a little bit on whichever one "calls to you" then move on to the next...OR you can have Chrissy blindfold you, twirl you in a circle and have you reach for a project - a la pin the tail on the donkey style! sigh.deciding.is.so.much.work.some.times.

  14. I'd come back to your blog no matter what you're stitching. You always have some great projects, but once again, I had to hid my eyes and peek when I looked at the screen. I just know that you're going to get me to pull out a needlepoint piece yet. BTW, do love that design and the colors a lot!

  15. Ha, I already declared 2010 The Year of Canvas, so if that's what's calling you, GO AND STITCH. I know I will sneak in a few cross stitch pieces, but since I ignored my canvas UFOs last year, this year they get center stage -- and some new canvas pieces, too.

  16. I absolutely fell in love with Shenandoah Spring when I saw your picture! I don't know what it is, but there is something about it...

Sounds like you need to just continue with your canvas pieces and not worry about who will or will not come here. I will come here to visit often as I love to see what you are up to next! And Stewey is a plus, but I much prefer to see the stitchy stuff, whether it be canvas or cross.

Stewey sleeping with his little baby sounds so cute. You should post a picture of that! LOL

  17. I say keep working on what is calling you. I love the colors you are using on that canvas piece and I would love to see a pic of Stewey with his baby.

  18. Coni, I like your plan! Stitch on whatever makes you happy!

  19. OOH, the color of Shenandoah Spring...LUSCIOUS! Stitch more of it!
Don't forget the XS too, but I am also getting inspired to pull out some canvas and getting at it.

  20. Yup, the January blahs have arrived in Indiana! I have them too, but mine came in December. Took me nearly 3 weeks to stitch that first LHN ornament. We all come to visit you, Coni, no matter what you are working on. The color on that Shenandoah piece is so soothing and calm. Can't wait to see more.

  23. I suggest lying to yourself and saying that you won't let yourself cross stitch for a month. That way, if you work on needlepoint during that time, you'll be happy because you're working on something you love. And if you sneak in cross stitch, you'll be happy because it seems like you're doing something dangerous (and don't we all want what we can't have?) works for me like a charm!

(but I'll still be here no matter what you do - thanks for the great blog!)

  24. I`m afraid it`s too late for me Coni....I have caught the LJP bug. I am doing 'canvaswork' om linen...partly because I want to work with fine guage threads, and partly because I don`t like the look of canvas when there are unworked areas in the design. It just looks unfinished....or it could just be my OCD kicking in. Also, it just looks like too much work mount the canvases properly...I am working on 28 ct linen in a hoop. Time will tell if this is sucessful or not...

Tell Stewey to be good and not pee on the drapes.
